First days of school are fun - for kids and grown-ups.

For his first first day of school as Puyallup School District superintendent, Dr. Kevin Alfano did something a little bit different. He boarded a school bus with someone pretty special: his great-nephew Kameron, a fifth-grader at Woodland Elementary.

Dr. Alfano spent the morning experiencing the first day right alongside Kameron and his classmates — from arriving at school and settling into the classroom to a walk down to music class.

All in all, this was a special morning for our superintendent. But maybe an even better one for a great-uncle.

Take a look!

Puyallup School District recently received a $15,000 contribution from Gesa Credit Union through its Affinity Debit Card program. Every swipe of a PSD-branded Gesa Affinity Card helps support academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs across our schools.

Beyond financial support, Gesa's partnership helps prepare students for the future through hands-on financial literacy and career-connected learning opportunities.

Thank you, Gesa Credit Union and community members, for supporting our students and schools and click through to learn more!

5… 4… 3… 2… 1… We’re back!

There’s a lot that goes into getting ready for a new school year - welcoming families, preparing classrooms, reconnecting as teams and, yes, having a little fun along the way.

After weeks of preparation and anticipation, our schools are once again filled with the people who make them special: our students.

Welcome back, PSD! Here’s to an incredible 2026–27 school year. ❤️

Our friends and community partners at Puyallup Police Department have shared important reminders on bus safety as school is set to begin on Wednesday, September 2.

Thanks for looking out for everyone heading back to school and thanks to Puyallup PD for always thinking of student and staff safety as the school year begins!

🚌📚 BACK TO SCHOOL = BUS SAFETY! 📚🚌

School will be back in session, which means more school buses—and more students getting on and off them. Let’s all do our part to keep our students safe! 💙

🚨 KNOW WHEN YOU MUST STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUS:

🛑 RED FLASHING LIGHTS = STOP!
When a school bus has its red lights flashing and the stop sign is extended, drivers must stop and remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the bus begins moving again.

⚠️ Two-lane road: Drivers traveling in both directions must stop.

⚠️ Multi-lane road: On multi-lane roads (three lanes or more, a physical barrier, or raised median) drivers traveling in the opposite direction generally don’t need to stop, but must proceed with caution.

🚸 Remember: Children may be crossing the road, and they can be unpredictable. Never pass a stopped school bus when the red lights are flashing.

Slow down, stay alert, and watch for students, crossing guards, and school buses as everyone gets back into their school-year routines.

Let’s make getting to and from school safe for everyone! 💙🚌

From literacy lessons to hands-on STEAM activities, students in the Summer Learning Program, hosted at Firgrove Elementary, spent July learning, creating, and exploring together!

Throughout the four-week program, students strengthened reading and writing skills while taking part in collaborative projects, problem-solving activities, and creative exploration. Along the way, they built confidence, strengthened important skills, and continued learning throughout the summer in preparation for the school year ahead.

A big thank you to the educators, support staff, and families whose partnership helped make Summer Learning a fun and engaging experience for our students!
