Known nationally for being one of the top detachments in the country, Detachment 695 is a place for aspiring Air Force officers to grow and develop. Cadets learn how to manage their time, work under pressure, and make sound judgments in all types of situations. The motto of Detachment 695 is Ignis Intus, which means “The Fire Within.” Each cadet has an inner fire that is cultivated and fed here at

University of Portland. Detachment 695 prepares young men and women to be some of the finestofficers commissioned into the United States Air force, and that is no light undertaking.

LLAB 2 opened with a briefing from a Det 695 alum now serving as a Special Warfare Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Officer, who shared what it’s really like to serve in one of the Air Force’s most demanding special warfare fields. From there, cadets shifted into the fundamentals of drill and ceremonies. Basic Cadets worked on stationary drill, while Basic Cadet Leaders refreshed on marching and began marching as a flight. Every strong leader starts with the basics. Hearing from someone who once stood exactly where they stand now reminds our cadets what’s possible when discipline meets purpose.
