From celebrating our first responders to enjoying fall festivities, the past few weeks have been filled with fun, laughter and community spirit!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out and participated in our community events, including National Night Out, the Portland Fire Department Open House, Boo Bash Festival, Book-a-Palooza and the Boo Bash Triathlon!

Whether you joined us to meet your neighbors, show appreciation for our first responders, enjoy a little Halloween fun, discover a new favorite book or cheer on our athletes, your participation helped make each event special.

🎃🏁 THIS SATURDAY: THE PUMPKIN DERBY! 🏁🎃

Get ready for some fast & gour-dious competition! 🍂 The City of Portland’s FIRST Pumpkin Derby is rolling into Fifth & Elm on Halloween, Saturday, October 31!

Inspired by the classic pinewood derby, this one-of-a-kind race puts pumpkin racers to the test in a single-elimination showdown. 🍁🏆 Come cheer on the competitors and see which gourd takes home the glory!

🕐 1 p.m. – Pit opens for pumpkin inspections
🏁 2 p.m. – Races begin!

🎃 RACERS, TAKE NOTE: Pumpkins must arrive ready to race! No building, assembly or prepping will be allowed on race day.

Bring your Halloween spirit and get ready to find out… MAY THE BEST GOURD WIN! 🏆🎃

Another TRAFFIC ALERT from Texas Department of Transportation:

All main lanes on a short section of US 181 between Portland and Gregory will be closed overnight beginning Wednesday, Oct. 28, beginning at 9:00 p.m. to Thursday, Oct. 29, until approximately 6:00 a.m. In addition to US 181, closures will also occur on SH 35 and FM 2986. A detour route will be in place.

These closures allow Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV) to move a large refinery module across the roadway.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, seek alternate routes, and allow additional travel time during these overnight closures.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Please be aware of upcoming road closures on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Closures will begin at 12:00 p.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m.

The Texas Department of Transportation will be closing the Harbor Bridge Southbound. All drivers must exit the Joe Fulton Corridor exit.

Harbor Bridge North bound left lane only with be closed.

Harbor Bridge shared use path (sidewalk) will be completely closed.

- Please carve your pumpkins at home before arriving.

🎃👻 What a spooktacular night at the Boo Bash Festival! 👻🎃

Portland Parks & Recreation’s annual Boo Bash Festival brought plenty of Halloween fun for the whole family! From carnival games to bounce houses, inflatable slides, and exciting activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Festivities also included the crowd-favorite scream contest, adorable pets showing off their Halloween costumes in the pet costume contest, and plenty of games and goodies along the Trick-or-Treat Trail! 🍬🐾 Families came together to celebrate the season, show off their spooky costumes, and make lasting memories.

A huge thank-you to everyone who attended, participated, volunteered, and helped make this year’s Boo Bash a frighteningly fun success! We look forward to another spooktacular Boo Bash next year! 🧡🕸️

National Night Out brought our community together for an evening of connection and family fun at Municipal Park. Thank you to everyone who came out to meet our local first responders, explore emergency equipment, enjoy the activities and celebrate the people who help keep Portland safe.
