Let’s be clear.

The rideshare tax was never about burdening Philadelphia residents. It was about making sure billion-dollar corporations pay their fair share in the city they profit from every single day.

Many Philadelphians saw it firsthand during Roots Picnic weekend. Rides that normally cost $20 or $30 surged far beyond that because these companies will always find ways to maximize their profits when demand is high.

What we proposed was simple: invest a portion of those profits back into Philadelphia. Into our schools. To preserve jobs. To support the people who serve our children every day. To give our young people the best possible chance to succeed.

Instead, misinformation convinced people that my administration wanted this tax on them.

Philadelphia deserves better than that. Our children deserve better than that.

We cannot continue allowing billion-dollar companies to do business in our city, benefit from our residents, and walk away without contributing their fair share to the future of Philadelphia.

I will never stop fighting for the resources our city needs, the opportunities our children deserve, and the fairness Philadelphians expect.

When people enter Philadelphia, they should immediately feel the pride we have for our city. 🌿🎨

That is what the Gateways to Philadelphia project is all about.

Led by Carlton Williams and our , this work along the Schuylkill and Vine Street Expressways will set a nationwide standard for highway beautification through vibrant landscaping, enhanced maintenance, and bold public art.

As we prepare to welcome the nation and the world for America’s 250th birthday and the historic summer of 2026, we are making investments that will leave a lasting impact for Philadelphians long after the celebrations are over.

💚 This is One Philly in action. And I’m grateful to all of our city, state, nonprofit, and private sector partners helping bring this vision to life, including .golden and , , , , , , , , the Office of Strategic Partnerships, , , , the Neubauer Family Foundation, Connelly Foundation, , the Philadelphia Funder Collaborative for the Semiquincentennial, and the Hamilton Family Foundation.

Today, we announced a proposed agreement with representatives of Philadelphia’s hotel industry on a revised tax proposal that is currently under consideration by City Council as part of our FY27 “One Philly, One Future” Budget.

Under the tentative agreement, the city’s originally proposed 2% hotel tax increase would be reduced to 0.6%, while also proposing a 6% increase on existing taxes applied to short-term rentals in Philadelphia.

Any final proposal remains subject to adoption by City Council and authorization by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

If adopted, the revised hotel tax and short-term rental tax proposals are projected to generate approximately $15 million annually, or roughly $75 million over five years, to help support City of Philadelphia Government's proposed investments aimed at ending street homelessness — including additional shelter capacity, wraparound services, behavioral health support, substance use recovery services, and other housing and continuity-of-care initiatives.

The proposal would sunset in five years.

I want to thank representatives from the hotel industry, Kenyatta Johnson, members of , State Legislators, and leaders from our administration for continuing to work together toward a balanced proposal that supports both our hospitality sector and our goal of helping more Philadelphians access safety, stability, and support with dignity.

This is an extraordinary, proposed agreement and it furthers our mission to end street homelessness in our city.

We gathered at Philadelphia’s All Wars Memorial to honor the service and patriotism of the men and women who gave so much in defense of our nation.

Thank you to Michael B. Roepel, the All Wars Memorial Committee, and American Legion Post 292 for preserving this important Memorial Day tradition for more than 30 years and ensuring these stories are never forgotten.

As Managing Director Adam Thiel, who serves in the U.S. Army Reserve, reminded us today: while we enjoy the traditions of Memorial Day, we should also pause to thank the veterans and active military members who have paid for our freedoms through blood, sweat, and sacrifice.

In One Philly, a united city, we carry forward the values they fought to protect through remembrance, stewardship, community, and love for one another. Thank you for your service.
