Ray-Pec Wrestling Program to Be Inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

PECULIAR, MO. — The Raymore-Peculiar High School Wrestling Program from 1984 through 2010 will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing 27 years of outstanding achievement, championship performances, and a tradition of excellence on the wrestling mat.

Over those 27 years, the Ray-Pec Panther wrestling program established itself as one of Missouri’s premier high school wrestling programs. Through dedication, hard work, and a commitment to excellence, the Panthers consistently competed among the state’s best, building a legacy that continues to represent the pride and tradition of Ray-Pec athletics.

The program’s accomplishments during this remarkable era include:

21 top-10 finishes in the Missouri state team standings.

24 top-two conference finishes, including 16 conference championships.

21 top-two district finishes, including 13 district championships.

More than 65 All-State wrestlers, including 11 individual state champions.

These accomplishments reflect more than wins and championships. They represent the commitment of generations of student-athletes, coaches, and families who helped build a program defined by discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and competitive excellence.

The induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to the athletes and coaches who contributed to the program’s success from 1984 through 2010. Their achievements established a standard of excellence for Ray-Pec wrestling and created a legacy that continues to inspire future generations of Panther wrestlers.

“This recognition is a tremendous honor for the Ray-Pec wrestling program and everyone who played a role in its success during those 27 years. The accomplishments speak for themselves, but the true legacy is found in the countless student-athletes and coaches who dedicated themselves to the program and represented Ray-Pec with pride.”

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame induction celebrates an extraordinary chapter in Panther athletics history and recognizes a wrestling program whose success, tradition, and impact extend far beyond the mat.

Flashback Friday - Brannon Beck – 2010 Ray-Pec Graduate

Brannon Beck, a 2010 graduate of Ray-Pec, was a three-time state qualifier whose wrestling career exemplified perseverance, toughness, and an unwavering determination to overcome adversity. As a sophomore in 2008, Brannon earned an impressive sixth-place finish at 130 pounds, establishing himself as one of the top wrestlers in the state. His junior season brought an unexpected challenge when he suffered an injury leading up to the state tournament. Rather than giving up, Brannon showed tremendous heart by attempting to wrestle through the injury, refusing to let the circumstances define his season. Although he ultimately fell short of the podium, that setback did not break his spirit or diminish his determination. Instead, Brannon responded the way true competitors do: by battling back. In his senior season, he returned to the state tournament and earned a fifth-place finish at 140 pounds, proving that adversity could not keep him from achieving his goals. He finished his high school career with an outstanding 112 victories, leaving behind a legacy defined not only by his accomplishments on the mat, but by his resilience when faced with challenges. Brannon continues to give back to the Panther wrestling program as a youth coach, helping develop the next generation of Ray-Pec wrestlers and passing along the same toughness, perseverance, and Panther pride that defined his own career.

📸 Flashback Friday - Ray-Pec Wrestling Family Legacy: The Herricks

The Herrick family has played an important role in the tradition of excellence that defines Ray-Pec Panthers wrestling. Dennis Herrick, a 1990 graduate of Ray-Pec, was a member of the Panthers’ 1990 Team State Championship squad, earning an impressive 2nd-place finish in the heavyweight division while helping the team capture a state championship.

Dennis’s brother, Bobby Herrick, was a 1989 Ray-Pec graduate who also made his mark on the wrestling mat, qualifying for the state tournament as a senior. Bobby’s impact on Panther wrestling extended well beyond his own high school career. He dedicated many years to coaching at both the youth and high school levels, playing an instrumental role in developing wrestlers and contributing to the continued success of the program.

The Herrick wrestling legacy continued through Bobby’s son, Clint Herrick, a 2019 Ray-Pec graduate. Clint became a three-time state qualifier for the Panthers, capping off his senior season with an outstanding 3rd-place finish at 182 pounds at the state tournament. His accomplishments carried on the family tradition of dedication, perseverance, and excellence on the wrestling mat.

From Dennis helping lead the Panthers to a team state championship, to Bobby’s success as a wrestler and years of coaching and mentorship, to Clint’s accomplishments on the state stage, the Herrick family has made a lasting impact on Ray-Pec wrestling. Their story reflects the generational commitment, passion, and pride that help make Panther wrestling such a special tradition.

The Herrick family represents the legacy of Ray-Pec wrestling, where dedication to the sport and the Panther tradition is passed from one generation to the next.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY - KENDALL BURKE — CLASS OF 2007

Kendall Burke put together one of the most decorated athletic careers in Ray-Pec history, earning an incredible five State Championships across football and wrestling.

On the football field, Kendall was a key member of Ray-Pec’s three-peat State Championship teams, proudly wearing the iconic #7 jersey as a senior linebacker. His outstanding senior season earned him 1st Team All-State honors, cementing his place among the Panthers’ elite football players.

On the wrestling mat, Kendall’s career was arguably one of the most dominant in Ray-Pec history. After placing 4th at 135 pounds as a freshman, Kendall made a remarkable jump to the 160-pound division, where he established himself as one of the state’s premier wrestlers. He captured back-to-back State Championships at 160 pounds as a sophomore and junior, dominating the division for two consecutive seasons. He capped his career with a 3rd-place State Medal at 160 pounds as a senior, giving him four State Tournament medals in four years.

Kendall finished his remarkable wrestling career with 162 victories, the second-most wins in Ray-Pec history, against just 27 losses. Even more impressive, 15 of those 27 losses came during his freshman season, meaning Kendall lost only 12 matches over his final three seasons while competing against the very best wrestlers in the state.

With two individual wrestling State Championships, three football State Championships, 162 career wrestling victories, four state wrestling medals, and 1st Team All-State football honors, Kendall Burke left behind a legacy of excellence that few Ray-Pec athletes have ever matched.

Five State Championships. Two-sport excellence. 162 wrestling victories. One unforgettable Panther.
