What an unforgettable Memorial Day! 🇺🇸✨
Today, the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. (JWV) made a powerful, historic showing at the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.! Marching down Constitution Avenue, our massive contingent proudly represented 130 years of enduring Jewish military service and dedication to our nation. 🦅🇺🇸
While National Commander Scott Stevens and National Vice Commander Selina Kanowitz represented us with honor at the Arlington National Cemetery Wreath Laying ceremony, members from across the country gathered in force for the parade. The Department of Mid-Atlantic Area, & Israel turned out in massive numbers, alongside leaders and veterans from other regions - including David B. Meyers, Department Commander for Virginia!
🎖️ THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE PARADE 🎖️
Our marching column was proudly led by four incredible World War II centenarian heroes riding in vintage 1930s and 1940s vehicles:
Milton Kalin (WWII Master Sgt., 102)
Frank Cohn (WWII Veteran, 101)
David Marshall (WWII Veteran, 101)
Albert Jacobs (WWII Veteran, 102)
(A special shoutout to their amazing drivers and companions: David Landow, Andrea Kalin, JoJo Drake Kalin, Gail Kalin, and CAPT Jared Silberman!)
🤝 NATIONAL & DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP 🤝
We had a phenomenal, intergenerational turnout of leadership marching side-by-side:
RADM Paul Becker
BGen. Michael Mann
National Action Officer Chuck Miller
JWV Parade Organizer and Post 888 Commander Barry L. Steelman
National Judge Advocate Arnold Abraham
Department Commander Scott Schlesinger
Department Judge Advocate Harvey Kaplan
JCAT Co-Director Steven Katz
JWV Post 9/11 Veterans Chair Dan Berkovitz
Our newly appointed Post 692 Commander, Jeff Kuhnreich
💪 PROUDLY MARCHING IN THE COLUMN 💪
Our column was stronger than ever thanks to the dedicated post members, active-duty participants, and families who stepped forward:
Anne Schlesinger, Paul Fegelson, Marshall Sapperstein, Andrew Swedlow, Yaelle Glenn, Jack Inacker, Elizabeth Robbins, Sue Meisner, Naomi Mercer, Dan Gerstein, Michael Cardozo, Steve Sutton, Moshe Shmuel, Benton Arnovitz, and Col Shlomo Daniel Menashi. We were also glad to have Marty Kalin, Yony Kalin, and Dr. Stephen Markowitz join the column to honor family legacy!
Thank you to everyone who traveled down to D.C. to march, support, and cheer us on. Your presence made this historic day an incredible success!
