What was your favorite memory from tonight's Jewish Heritage Night with the Baltimore Orioles? ⚾️🧡 Drop your favorite moments, stories, and photos in the comments below!

First, a big thank you goes out to the Baltimore Orioles for the incredible win but also for supporting us by involving our Post with the game.

What an absolutely unforgettable night at Camden Yards! The community turnout was incredible, and it was a true honor meeting so many supporters and fellow veterans.
Here is how our incredible evening unfolded on the field:

🇺🇸 First up: The Color Guard

Our JWV Post 167 Color Guard stood incredibly tall to open the evening's ceremonies, representing the proud legacy of Jewish military service. It was a history-making presentation featuring:

The Altman Siblings: Three siblings—all currently serving in the military and all proud members of our post - standing side-by-side on the field. Having three siblings simultaneously answering the call to serve is a massive deal!

Marine Corps Leadership: We were privileged to have a Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Gary Deitch participating on the field, proudly representing the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A..

This is the second year Hazamir Baltimore performed an amazing rendition of our National Anthem.

⚾️ Next up: The Ceremonial First Pitch
Right after the colors were presented, our very own WWII veteran, Ralph Brunn, took the mound! Attending at 101 years young, Ralph did an amazing job throwing out the first pitch. He was accompanied out to the mound by Paul D. Savanuck Post 888 Commander Barry L. Steelman.

On behalf of JWV Maryland Free State Post 167 Commander Dan Berkovitz, Barry Steelman presented the Centenarian Life Membership award to Ralph Brunn.

(We got to share some fantastic laughs with Ralph in the waiting area before and after things kicked off - swipe through the photos to see the awesome shot of him holding one of our ceremonial rifles!)

JWV Post 167 sponsor the tickets for our veterans who are members of our Post. Veterans in attendance were Michael Wohl, Marshall Sapperstein, Aaron Venegas, Charles A. Hazard, Bucky Paper, Michael Zippert, Jerry Engleman, and Natan Kerendian also attended the game.

What an unforgettable Memorial Day! 🇺🇸✨

Today, the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. (JWV) made a powerful, historic showing at the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.! Marching down Constitution Avenue, our massive contingent proudly represented 130 years of enduring Jewish military service and dedication to our nation. 🦅🇺🇸

While National Commander Scott Stevens and National Vice Commander Selina Kanowitz represented us with honor at the Arlington National Cemetery Wreath Laying ceremony, members from across the country gathered in force for the parade. The Department of Mid-Atlantic Area, & Israel turned out in massive numbers, alongside leaders and veterans from other regions - including David B. Meyers, Department Commander for Virginia!

🎖️ THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE PARADE 🎖️
Our marching column was proudly led by four incredible World War II centenarian heroes riding in vintage 1930s and 1940s vehicles:

Milton Kalin (WWII Master Sgt., 102)

Frank Cohn (WWII Veteran, 101)

David Marshall (WWII Veteran, 101)

Albert Jacobs (WWII Veteran, 102)
(A special shoutout to their amazing drivers and companions: David Landow, Andrea Kalin, JoJo Drake Kalin, Gail Kalin, and CAPT Jared Silberman!)

🤝 NATIONAL & DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP 🤝
We had a phenomenal, intergenerational turnout of leadership marching side-by-side:

RADM Paul Becker

BGen. Michael Mann

National Action Officer Chuck Miller

JWV Parade Organizer and Post 888 Commander Barry L. Steelman

National Judge Advocate Arnold Abraham

Department Commander Scott Schlesinger

Department Judge Advocate Harvey Kaplan

JCAT Co-Director Steven Katz

JWV Post 9/11 Veterans Chair Dan Berkovitz

Our newly appointed Post 692 Commander, Jeff Kuhnreich

💪 PROUDLY MARCHING IN THE COLUMN 💪
Our column was stronger than ever thanks to the dedicated post members, active-duty participants, and families who stepped forward:
Anne Schlesinger, Paul Fegelson, Marshall Sapperstein, Andrew Swedlow, Yaelle Glenn, Jack Inacker, Elizabeth Robbins, Sue Meisner, Naomi Mercer, Dan Gerstein, Michael Cardozo, Steve Sutton, Moshe Shmuel, Benton Arnovitz, and Col Shlomo Daniel Menashi. We were also glad to have Marty Kalin, Yony Kalin, and Dr. Stephen Markowitz join the column to honor family legacy!

Thank you to everyone who traveled down to D.C. to march, support, and cheer us on. Your presence made this historic day an incredible success!

Today, members of Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. Maryland Free State Post 167 and the Jewish Uniformed Service Association of Maryland (JUSA) gathered at the Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

While we were proud to participate in the beautiful Memorial Day ceremony - special thanks to our very own Mel Shichtman and Michael Zippert for their hard work on the Garrison Forest ceremony planning committee! - JWV and JUSA came together immediately afterward to host our annual, deeply moving Kaddish Service.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to today’s speakers who made the afternoon so memorable:

Thank you to Ed Rothstein for sharing your powerful words with us.

Thank you to Izzy Patoka for advocating for all veterans of our beloved County.

Thank you to Charles Jay for speaking so eloquently on behalf of our Post.

And a final thank you to Rabbi Chesky Tenenbaum, Director of JUSA, for your steadfast leadership and dedication to our veteran community.

It was a privilege to stand together in community, remembrance, and prayer today. To everyone who joined us, thank you for helping us ensure that these heroes are never forgotten.

May the memories of our fallen brothers and sisters always be a blessing. 🕯️

While, we're here, raising money for military and veterans. We want to salute all those currently serving in the U.S. Military in honor of Armed Forces Day (on Shabbat). We take special pride in honoring the Jewish service members - including those in our own Post - who continue a long and noble legacy of volunteering to defend our nation and represent our community with honor. To our active duty and reserve members: thank you for your service and for carrying our story forward.

For nearly 2,000 years, the prayer to return to the heart of Jerusalem was passed down through generations. On Yom Yerushalayim, we celebrate the moment that prayer became a reality.

In 1967, the soldiers of the 55th Paratroopers Brigade - led by Mordechai "Motta" Gur - broke through Lion’s Gate with the legendary cry: "Har HaBayit beyadeinu!" (The Temple Mount is in our hands!)

As Jewish American military veterans, we understand that freedom is secured through service and sacrifice. As Shavuot approaches, we are reminded that the liberation of '67 didn't just return us to a city; it returned us to the place where our community has gathered for millennia.

Because of those brave protectors then - and those who stand guard today - the gates of the ancient city remain open for us to gather in prayer, hope, and community.

Walk where history was made:

Join the 2026 JWV Mission to Israel this October 19-28. We will travel in solidarity to honor those on the front lines and experience the enduring spirit of Jerusalem firsthand.
