Busy day today with The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore and Baltimore Jewish Council for the Annual Campaign launch. The Associated touches nearly everything that we do in our community and it's important that we support them.

We also tabled at the Military Appreciation Day at the Maryland State Fair today and helped veterans learn about what we do for the community.

Should we have a National Convention here in Baltimore?

What a great Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. 131st National Convention in Albany, NY. Good work by the Post 9/11 Veterans Committee as well.

Congratulations to outgoing NC Scott Stevens and our newly elected National Commander Selina S. Kanowitz and our very own, National Vice Commander Scott Schlesinger.

There is nothing quite like being in a room full of veterans when one of our own is honored - and yesterday at our 4th Annual Cookout, that moment belonged to Korean War veteran Morris Millman.

โ€‹Surrounded by families, friends, and comrades at the Pikesville Armory NCO Club, Morris was presented with a handcrafted quilt by the Quilts Of Valor Foundation Www.qovf.org. Watching decades of selfless service recognized in that room captured the exact reason Maryland Free State Post 167 exists: ensuring that those who wore the uniform know their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

โ€‹Beyond honoring Morris, the afternoon was filled with great kosher barbecue, lively conversations, and the unmistakable camaraderie that comes from service members sharing a table. We shared many stories. We shared a veterans Larry Yolken sister's passing. We also shared the recent birth to one of our own Natan Kerendian.

โ€‹A sincere thank you to our Corporate Sponsor Guidon Law, our Event Sponsor Dandelion Health, and our partners, Market Maven Baltimore, Jewish Uniformed Service Association of Maryland, and the Pikesville Armory for their generous support in making this gathering possible.

โ€‹Days like yesterday remind us of the strength of our community. We are actively welcoming new members to our ranks - whether you are a veteran, currently serving, or a family member looking to support as a patron. Send us a message to get involved with Post 167.

โ€‹(Drop your favorite photos from yesterday in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡)

Finally, I personally want to thank my wife, Charles Jay, Michael Zippert, and Aaron Venegas for their help with the Cookout.

And finally, thanks to one of Mora Tziri Preis videos, I got to meet Paul Blitz, Junior Vice Commander for VFW MD who attended our event.

Weโ€™re Ready to Eat, Celebrate & Schmooze! ๐ŸŒญ

โ€‹This weekend, Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A. Maryland Free State Post 167 will welcome more than 50 registered guests to our annual BBQ for an afternoon of food, fellowship, celebration, and community.
โ€‹But this gathering is about more than whatโ€™s on the grill.

โ€‹Weโ€™re honored to partner with Quilts Of Valor Foundation Www.qovf.org Quilts of Valor to recognize Korean War era Veteran Morris Millman of Paul Savanuck Post 888, whose dedication represents the generations of Jewish Veterans who have answered the call to serve our country.

โ€‹Weโ€™re also incredibly grateful to our partners, Pikesville Armory and Market Maven Baltimore, for helping us bring this yearโ€™s gathering to life.

โ€‹A special thank you goes to our Relish Sponsor, Dandelion Healthcare LLC, along with our other sponsors Charles Jay, Seth Phillips, Noah Saposnik, and Davida Cramer, for investing in our mission and making this event possible.

โ€‹To the 50+ guests who have already registered: we canโ€™t wait to see you!
โ€‹Come hungry. Come ready to celebrate. Come ready to schmooze.

โ€‹Our annual BBQ is a wonderful opportunity for Jewish Veterans, families, friends, and neighbors to connect, honor those who served before us, and continue building a strong, supportive community long after the uniform comes off.

โ€‹See you this weekend! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโœก๏ธ๐ŸŒญ

Today is National Purple Heart Day. Let's honor our heroes. Do you know anyone with the Purple Heart?

Purple Heart Day commemorates the creation of our Nationโ€™s oldest decoration for military merit. It was created by Gen. George Washington in 1787 to be presented to soldiers for "๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ฆ ๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘›๐‘”๐‘ข๐‘™๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘™๐‘ฆ ๐‘š๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘ก๐‘œ๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘ข๐‘  ๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘›" and symbolized the courage and devotion of an American Patriot.

In the 1930's, around the time of Washingtonโ€™s 200th birthday, Gen. Douglas MacArthur persuaded the U.S. War Department to create the Order of the Purple Heart. The award continued to recognize the commendable actions of service members until 1944, when the medal was limited only to those wounded or killed in combat. [DVIDS USMC photo by Cpl. Ana S.
