On Friday, 8 May, the Loyola Greyhound Battalion came together as one Army family to celebrate an incredible school year during our annual Military Ball. It was a night filled with pride, recognition, and camaraderie as we honored the hard work and achievements of our cadets. The evening also included the contracting oath ceremony, recognizing cadets as they took the next important step in their Army ROTC journey.

Cadets, cadre, alumni, family, and friends shared a great meal, danced, laughed, and enjoyed an unforgettable evening together while reflecting on the bonds and memories built throughout the year.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to our Guest of Honor and Guest Speaker, Christel Hiltibran, for sharing inspiring words of leadership, service, and perseverance with our cadets. Your message made a lasting impact on everyone in attendance.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Loyola Greyhound Battalion Military Ball such a meaningful and successful event. Go Greyhounds!

From 16APRIL2026 to 19APRIL2026, select CDTs from the Greyhound Battalion attended JFTX alongside cadets from Johns Hopkins, Morgan State, McDaniel College, and the University of Delaware. Over three days, cadets conducted weapons familiarization on the M4, M249, and M240, along with drone familiarization. The exercise continued with day and night land navigation, overnight patrol base ops, and tactical lanes.

Building readiness, strengthening teamwork, and preparing the next generation of Army leaders for success at CST and beyond.

The Greyhound battalion took the AFT on APR 14 2026. The AFT consists of 5 events:

1. 3 REPETITION MAXIMUM DEADLIFT (MDL)
Deadlift the maximum weight possible three times. The MDL assesses the Muscular Strength component of fitness by measuring a Soldier’s lower body, grip and core muscular strength.
2. HAND RELEASE PUSH-UP - ARM EXTENSION (HRP)
Complete as many Hand-Release Push-ups as possible in two minutes. The HRP assesses the Muscular Endurance component of fitness by measuring a Soldier’s upper body endurance.
3. SPRINT-DRAG-CARRY (SDC)
Conduct 5 x 50 meter shuttles for time - sprint, drag, lateral, carry and sprint. The SDC assesses the Muscular Endurance, Muscular Strength, Anaerobic Power and Anaerobic Endurance components of fitness by measuring a Soldier’s ability to sustain moderate to high intensity muscular work over a short duration.
4. PLANK (PLK)
Maintain a proper plank position for as long as possible. The PLK assesses the Muscular Endurance component of fitness by measuring a Soldier’s core strength and endurance.
5. TWO-MILE RUN (2MR)
Run two miles for time on a measured, generally flat outdoor course. The 2MR assesses the Aerobic Endurance component of fitness. Higher aerobic endurance allows a Soldier to work for long periods of time and to recover more quickly when executing repetitive physical tasks.

The Greyhound Battalion before and after the Sprint Drag Carry (SDC)! The SDC is the third of five of the Army Fitness Test’s events.
On the command “GO,” you’ll stand and sprint 25 meters; touch the 25-meter line with foot and hand; turn and sprint back to the start line.
You will then grasp each strap handle of the 90-pound sled positioned behind the start line; pull the sled backwards until the entire sled crosses the 25-meter line; turn the sled around and pull back until the entire sled crosses the start line.
After the entire sled returns across the start line, you will perform a lateral for 25 meters, touch the 25-meter turn line with your foot and hand, and perform the lateral back to the start line. You will face the same direction moving back to the 25-meter start line and returning to the start line so you lead with each foot.
You will then grasp the handles of two 40-pound kettlebells and run to the 25-meter turn line, step on or over the 25-meter turn line with one foot, turn, and run back to the start line.
After stepping on or over the start line, you will place the kettlebells on the ground, turn and sprint 25 meters, touch the 25-meter turn line with your foot and hand, turn, and sprint back to the start line.
At any point in the SDC, if you fail to cross the 25-meter line for each workout, you will be called back.
The SDC assesses the Muscular Endurance, Muscular Strength, Anaerobic Power, and Anaerobic Endurance components of fitness by measuring one’s ability to sustain moderate- to high-intensity muscular work over a short duration. Secondary components of fitness assessed by the SDC include balance, coordination, agility, flexibility, and reaction time.

Light the Night Ruck

MS1–MS4 cadets conducted the “Light the Night” ruck in support of su***de awareness, moving as a team with chem lights and disks rigged to our rucks. The lights weren’t just for visibility—they served as a reminder that no one out here is moving alone.

Events like this matter for cadets. Training can be demanding, and it’s easy for people to keep things to themselves. This ruck reinforced the importance of staying connected, looking out for one another, and making sure no one feels isolated within the formation.

Alumni LTC John Giroux, Steven Galeazzi, and COL Chad Maddox joined the ruck, showing that this standard carries beyond the program and throughout a career.

This weekend, on 28MAR2026, the Greyhound Battalion completed our Super Lab training. Cadets stated the day off with a BN ruck, then continued into a hands-on learning experience with ASIP radios. Cadets also learned critical problem solving and leadership skills with the FLRC (Field Leaders Reaction Course). To end the day, Cadets practiced on the obstacle course to better prepare them for CST.

Greyhound BN x West Point Society of Baltimore

On 25 March 2026, cadets from the Greyhound Battalion spent the day at Loyola University Maryland hosting a Leadership Symposium from 0700–1900. Through small group discussions, interactive workshops, keynote speakers, and administering the CFA for high school candidates, cadets worked to inspire, mentor, and develop the next generation of leaders. The event emphasized leadership and character development while also building awareness of military service opportunities through West Point and ROTC. 🇺🇸
