🚩Red Flag Warnings continue today across most of Minnesota due to dry conditions, high winds, and low humidity.

While some areas may have received some precipitation last night, it only provides temporary relief. Low humidity and strong winds can dry out fine fuels like grasses and leaves in as little as one hour after the rain stops. These fine fuels can easily ignite and cause a wildfire that spreads quickly.

While the Red Flag Warning is in effect:
❌Don’t burn brush and yard debris!
⚠️Be extra cautious with outdoor activities that could produce heat or a spark. Campfires are discouraged.
βœ”οΈCheck ash piles from wood-burning stoves or heaters and any recent fire for lingering heat. Embers can stay hot for days, even months, and rekindle in Red Flag conditions. If you find heat, drown with water, stir, and repeat until it's out COLD.

Remember, only you can prevent wildfires!
Burning restrictions are in place for many counties. Check current fire danger and restrictions at www.mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions

πŸ”₯ Today's fire danger is very high according to the MN DNR. πŸ”₯

🌞 🌑 Warm temperatures and high winds increase fire spread risk:

🚫 Don't burn brush or yard waste.

⚠️ Be careful with any outdoor activity that can cause heat or sparks. Metal from yard equipment that hits a rock could create a spark. Park vehicles and ATVs on gravel or pavement to avoid the hot exhaust systems heating nearby tall grass.

❗️ If you do have a recreational fire, follow proper campfire safety tips: clear any flammable items 5 feet around the campfire area, keep it contained in a fire ring, keep it small, always attend your fire, and put it out COLD. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.

πŸš’ Last week, firefighters trained on a structure fire scenario πŸš’

This training allowed every firefighter to be involved by putting their skills in action to drive the fire trucks, lay hose, pump water, stage equipment, and set up water supply to provide continuous water to the scene.

πŸ’§ Afterwards, firefighters practiced their pump operating skills and learned about various issues they could encounter. πŸ’§

πŸš’ Over the past several days, Oak Grove Fire crews have provided mutual aid to two surrounding cities in support of firefighting activities. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

On Sunday, May 3rd, Oak Grove Engine 11 was dispatched to Ramsey in support of a 2nd alarm for a large structure fire. The incident grew to include a nearby swamp area and Oak Grove Grass 11 with a J5 grassland vehicle responded. Multiple agencies were involved in this fire incident, including units from the Minnesota DNR and a DNR helicopter to conduct water drops on the fire.

On Tuesday, May 5th, in the early morning hours, Oak Grove Engine 11 and 21 were dispatched to St. Francis to provide support to the Rum River Fire District for a structure fire. Oak Grove crews assisted with the rescue of several cats and kittens that were trapped in the structure. Crews from Andover and Nowthen also provided mutual aid on this incident.

The cause of both fires is unknown at this time.

πŸ’ͺ It takes a team to tackle the demands of firefighting. We appreciate our partners in surrounding cities that come together to answer the call for help at all hours of the day! πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’
