The city we know today as Andover was first organized in 1857 under the name “Round Lake Township.” However, in 1860 the name was changed to “Grow Township” in honor of Senator Galusha A. Senator Grow spoke at a political campaign in Anoka that year, and the town name was changed to honor Senator Grow because of his strong advocacy of the Union cause. At that time, the population was 330 and inclu

ded the geographical area we know today as Ham Lake. In fact, the area of Ham Lake was considered a part of Grow Township until 1871.

As a reminder, permits/licenses are required for peddlers, solicitors and transient merchants within the City of Andover. For a current list of permits/licenses issued, visit https://www.andovermn.gov/233/Licenses-Permits

Each approved solicitor is issued a City badge with the following information on the badge: license number, expiration date, company they are representing and their name.

If someone approaches you at your home or if someone is selling at a location (parking lot, street corner), you can ask if they have a permit from the City of Andover. If they do not, call the non-emergency police number at (763) 427-1212 to report them.

Are you looking for a place to host your graduation party, baby or bridal shower, or a family reunion this summer? The City of Andover has a brand new shelter at Pine Hills North available for rent.

The shelter has a covered seating area, indoor bathrooms, and a concession area with a service window and sink. The rental of the shelter includes use of the concession area that has a prep sink, countertop, service window, and plenty of outlets.
