Our hearts are still full of joy from our Celebration of Black Philanthropy event which honored our SOUL of Philanthropy Award recipient, Dr. Maggie Young.

Nearly 200 community members came together to connect, learn, celebrate, and invest in a stronger future for Fairfield County. The evening was a powerful reminder that meaningful change happens when people find one another and act together.

Today, on International Youth Day, we're celebrating the idea that while young people may grow up in different communities and face different challenges, their aspirations are remarkably similar: to learn, lead, create change, and build a better future.

Through Fairfield County's Community Foundation's Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC), young people gained hands-on experience in leadership, philanthropy, fundraising, grantmaking, and community engagement. Along the way, they built future-ready skills like critical thinking, collaboration, empathy, and decision-making while creating meaningful impact in Fairfield County.

This year, YPC members awarded grants to 14 local nonprofits and demonstrated what International Youth Day reminds us every year: young people are not only preparing for the future, they're helping shape it right now.

Join us on Thursday, Aug. 20 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. for an inspiring, virtual discussion as we explore how generosity and innovative practices create healthier families, stronger futures and lasting change. Black Health is Black Wealth celebrates the power of philanthropy to strengthen Black communities through mental wellness, maternal health and collective care.

Fairfield County will be represented by Dr. Charles Morgan, Founder and President of Sawubona Cares (a Bridgeport based nonprofit focused on the mental health and resiliency of youth in Bridgeport utilizing creative expression).

Observed every August, Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) is a global celebration and concerted campaign to elevate African-descent giving and funding equity. The theme for 2026 is "Many Voices. One Movement."

Investing in collaborative partnerships is at the heart of the Community Foundation's mission, and this grant is a great example of that in action. Together, Intempo and Building One Community will give more youth the chance to thrive creatively and develop meaningful peer relationships. We look forward to seeing this community program unfold.

We are thrilled to announce that INTEMPO has been awarded a $45,000 Arts Education Grant from Fairfield County's Community Foundation!

This grant will support an exciting new collaboration with Building One Community, through which students enrolled in B1C’s Academic Enrichment Program will receive guitar instruction at INTEMPO Music School alongside near-peer mentorship from our Youth Council.

We are deeply grateful to FCCF for their generous investment in our students and to B1C—under the leadership of Executive Director Marissa Muñoz—for being such a valued partner. We can’t wait to bring this program to life starting in the fall!
