Today we honor the hard work, dedication, and resilience of workers everywhere, especially those striving every day to build a better future for themselves and their families. ๐Ÿ’š

What does charity actually look like?

Sometimes it looks like a donation. But sometimes it looks like a bag of groceries, a few hours spent volunteering, school supplies collected by a local business, help preparing for a job interview, or the keys to a new home.

This International Day of Charity, weโ€™re thinking about all the different ways our community shows up for people when they need support.

Every meal served, every family supported, every person who moves into a home, and every opportunity to take the next step is made possible by people who decided they could help.

There is no single way to make a difference.

To everyone who gives, volunteers, partners, collects, shares, advocates, or simply helps someone learn about the resources available to them: thank you for being part of this work. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒŸ Employee of the Month: Katrina ๐ŸŒŸ

As a Support Specialist, Katrina plays an important role in making sure the people we serve feel welcomed, respected, and supported each day.

Her work is often about being there in the moments that matter โ€” offering assistance, helping things run smoothly, and creating an environment where people can feel safe as they work toward greater stability.

Thank you, Katrina, for the care and dedication you bring to your work and to the people we serve. Weโ€™re grateful to have you as part of the Open Doors team! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’š

What can happen in one year when a community comes together? ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’š

Our latest newsletter is here, and this edition is a special one! Weโ€™re sharing our annual Highlights โ€” a look at the meals served, people housed, families supported, goals reached, and so much more that YOU helped make possible.

Every number represents a person, a family, or a moment when someone had the support they needed to move forward.

Take a look at what we accomplished together this past year โ€” and what your support continues to make possible.

Itโ€™s the last day of August, which means itโ€™s time to celebrate our Community Partner of the Month: Revity3!

This month, the Revity3 team hosted a school supply drive to help stock our Community Closet with essentials for children heading back to school. ๐ŸŽ’โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ““

For families working hard to make ends meet, the cost of notebooks, backpacks, pencils, and all the other supplies on a school list can add up quickly. Having these items available at the Closet means parents have one less expense to worry about and children can walk into the classroom with the supplies they need to learn and feel prepared.

Thank you, Revity3, for seeing a need in our community and stepping up to help!

Is your business looking for a way to give back? There are so many ways to partner with Open Doors, from hosting a drive or volunteering as a team to sponsoring a program or creating your own fundraiser.

๐ŸŽ’ Back to school is here! ๐Ÿ“š

As kids head back to school this week, weโ€™re so happy to share that our Open Doors kids had a special Back-to-School Party last week! They were able to pick out the school supplies and essentials they needed to start the new school year feeling ready and confident. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงก

And thanks to the incredible generosity of the Revity 3 members and everyone who participated in their school supply drive, our Community Closet was stocked with even more supplies for our families!

A new school year brings new opportunities, and weโ€™re grateful to everyone who helped make sure our kids could start theirs feeling prepared and supported.

Thank you, Revity, for showing up for our community! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงก

๐Ÿ‘• Today is National Secondhand Wardrobe Day!

And we thought it was the perfect day to introduce you to a part of Open Doors you may not know much about: our Community Closet.

What exactly is a Community Closet?
What can you donate?
What shouldnโ€™t you donate?
And how can a donated shirt, pair of shoes, or household item make a difference for someone in our community?

Swipe through โ†’ Weโ€™re answering all of those questions and sharing a little more about the people and purpose behind the Closet.

Because secondhand isn't just about giving something a second life. It can help give someone more choices, dignity, and room in their budget for the things they need most. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’š
