Scituate's tax freeze for residents 65 who have lived in Scituate for ten years or more in the house for at least the same period is one of the most generous in the state. Getting rid of the ten year requirement as the all GOP council proposed (without knowing the cost or loss of revenue or even having basic information about it) would shift more of the tax burden to all homeowners under 65 but coincidently also benefit two council members (Mr. McCormick and Council President Collins) who currently do not qualify for the freeze but would under this new proposal.
Good government or self-interest? Thankfully, after former Councilman and State Rep. Marcello brought this issue to light, Councilwoman Yeaw tabled the matter! Thoughts? Helping the elderly stay in their homes is a good thing - Helping certain members of the town council at the expense of others is not!
