Foster Center Volunteer Fire Company Member Spotlight

Our goal is to honor the hard‑working volunteers who respond during your time of need — and to shine a light on the behind‑the‑scenes heroes who keep our station running strong.
Volunteer of the Month: Firefighter David Cabrera
1. How long have you been a volunteer at FCVFC?
David will be celebrating one year of service this August — a milestone that already reflects his commitment and enthusiasm.
2. How did you get involved with FCVFC?
While searching for a place to volunteer, David came across a Facebook ad for FCVFC. He submitted his information, and soon after, Fire Chief Jason DiCarlo invited him to visit the station. The rest is history.
3. What aspects of volunteering do you find the most fulfilling?
For David, it’s simple: helping others. Knowing that his actions make a difference is what drives him.
4. Most memorable moment so far?David loved being part of station 3' annual Harvest Bingo — both the preparation for it and the fun of participating. It was a great reminder of how much joy community events bring.
5. What do you wish people knew about volunteering at FCVFC?
“There is so much to learn, and the people here are wonderful.”
David wants residents to know that FCVFC is filled with warm, supportive, dedicated volunteers who welcome anyone willing to help.
6. Professional background: David is an industrial engineer working in production operations, bringing a thoughtful, analytical mindset to everything he does.
7. What do you enjoy doing when not volunteering?
Cooking, swimming, and reading — a perfect mix of creativity, activity, and quiet time.
8. What would you tell someone interested in volunteering?
“It’s a very good place — even if you’re just helping however you can.”
David believes there’s a role at Foster Center Fire Company for everyone.
9. What do you like best about volunteering at FCVFC?
He loves that he’s always learning — and still gets that unmistakable thrill of being in the trucks.
