The Red River Waterway Commission is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana created in 1968 and is the local sponsor for the U.S. Bennett Johnston Waterway (Red River) Navigation Project. The RRWC boundaries include seven (7) Northwest and Central Louisiana parishes: Caddo, Bossier, Red River, Natchitoches, Grant, Rapides, and Avoyelles.

The new bandshell for the Amphitheater at the Alexandria Riverfront was the perfect backdrop this past Saturday, April 25th for Pops on the River presented by the Rapides Symphony Orchestra. The new bandshell and other improvements to the riverfront plaza were funded in part by a cooperative endeavor agreement between the Red River Waterway Commisission and the City of Alexandria. The Commissioners of the Red River Waterway are delighted to have participated in such a worthwhile project to enhance the Alexandria Riverfront and downtown area.
