Peggy McGallagher has spent 24 years teaching skills that her students will use all their lives. As Baker High School's Culinary Arts teacher, she's taken teams to compete and win top honors in competitions at Disney World and around the Gulf Coast. She's overseen the installation of commercial-grade kitchens at Baker, where her students learn everything from food preparation and cooking techniques to sanitation, food safety, teamwork, and time management. When she retires after this year, she take many great memories and lifelong relationships with her while leaving some big shoes to fill. "I love giving the kids real life experience, something they can use beyond the classroom," she said. "I've touched a lot of lives and a lot of lives have touched me. It's more than just teaching. It's relationships."

Daniela Colocho is enjoying her senior year at Baker High School while preparing for her future. She plans to major in global studies at the University of Alabama with the goal of becoming a medical malpractice attorney, and is taking a Patient Care Tech course to familiarize herself with the healthcare field. She's also a member of Key Club, Multicultural Club, the Diamond Dolls and Storm Corps, which organizes Baker's Wellness Wednesdays and High Five Fridays. "You never know what a student comes in with in the morning, so just seeing a smile and a high five brightens their day," said Colocho, who loves that there are so many clubs and other groups to get involved with at her school. "I really enjoy that about Baker -- you will find a place here."
