Millwood Fire

Millwood Fire The official page for the Millwood Volunteer Fire Co. #1 and Fire District. DES Trunk 17.

The Millwood Fire Company protects the citizens of Millwood, New York, a hamlet of the town of New Castle, as well as, a large portion of Chappaqua and Ossining. The Millwood Fire District protects approximately 9.18 square miles and 6,000 people in the northern part of Westchester County. We currently are comprised of nearly sixty members, and are actively growing. Responding from two stations, w

e protect a primarily residential fire district with a handful of commercial developments, as well as an electrical substation. Our neighboring departments include the Chappaqua, Mount Kisco, Briarcliff Manor, Ossining, Yorktown, and Croton Fire Departments. The Millwood Fire Company is a private department, whose members are on a volunteer-only status. Responding at any time of the day, our members disappear from their place of work and homes, leaving behind their jobs and families to proudly and professionally protect the Millwood Fire District. The Fire Company currently responds to approximately 300 alarms per year, ranging from automatic alarm activations, and car accidents, to structure fires, and life-threatening situations. The Fire District currently holds a split ISO Rating of 4/9 (East/West side of town). If you have any questions about your ISO rating, please feel free to contact the Millwood Fire District at [email protected]. Serving an area of diverse terrain, a larger portion of our district does not contain fire hydrants. To solve this problem, we operate a Tanker with a 3,000 gallon water tank, and have mutual-aid agreements with surrounding departments. In the event of a need for large sources of water, multiple tankers can be dispatched to provide a constant flow of water to the scene, providing a replacement of water due to this lack of hydrants. Another part of the Millwood Fire District includes a five-mile portion of the Taconic State Parkway. Providing approximately twenty percent of the annual call volume, the Millwood Fire Company responds to the parkway with mutual-aid given to and received from the Briarcliff Manor and the Yorktown Heights Fire Departments. Rescue-36 and Engine 247 based out of station one, have full Hurst hydraulic extrication systems, in addition to Engine-248 based from station two, which has an additional full complement of hydraulic rescue tools. The Millwood Fire Company is dispatched by the Westchester County Emergency Services (60-control) primarily via radio-pager and siren notification, as well as supplemental text-based dispatch to our officers. We are primarily dispatched on the 46:26 frequency, and our primary operations are on Westchester Co. Emergency 911 calls are received by the New Castle Police Department, and then forwarded to 60-Control for proper dispatch and management of additional resources. We currently staff and operate 1 Ladder Truck, a 2008 Sutphen (L52) as well as two engines, a 2020 KME (Engine 247), and a 2004 Sutphen Spartan (Engine 248). We also operate a 2017 Rescue / Engine with full light, cascade, and extrication systems (Rescue 36). Mini-Attack 10, is a 2013 Ford-F550, and our Utility 44 is a 2002 Chevy 2500 heavy duty. In addition, Tanker 15 is a 1994 3D Kenworth carrying 3000+ gallons of water. The Millwood Fire Company is always looking for new members who are willing to put forth the effort and take a step forward in our community. No prior experience is required, and full state approved training will be provided. Anybody over the age of sixteen and in good health is more than welcomed to fill out an application and proceed to join the Millwood Fire Company and make a difference in our community. Quick Check: Is your house number visible from the street? 🏠
In an emergency, every second counts. If our crews are squinting to find your address in the dark or behind overgrown bushes, it slows us down.
Help us help you! Make sure your house numbers are:
• Large and easy to read.
• Lighted or reflective.
• Visible from both directions of traffic.
Stay safe, Millwood!

Training is the cornerstone of the Millwood Fire Company. We are committed to making sure every member is prepared, confident, and ready to serve—and that starts with providing all the training you need, from day one.
Right now, two of our new members are attending entry-level New York State fire training courses -- Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO) and Interior Firefighting Operations (IFO) classes. In addition, another new member is set to begin BEFO/IFO training this May.
We’re proud to support our members as they take these important steps—building their skills, growing their confidence, and strengthening the future readiness of our department. Interested in joining a team that invests in you from the start?

Ever wonder who is behind the wheel when the sirens sound in Millwood?
We aren't just your fire department—we’re your neighbors. The Millwood Fire Company is a 100% volunteer organization. That means the person responding to your emergency might be your local mechanic, your child’s teacher, or the person you saw at the grocery store this morning.
Since 1924, we’ve been dedicated to protecting this community on our own time, driven by nothing but a desire to keep our hometown safe.

Recently 2252 and Tanker 15 responded to Briarcliff, for a fire at Briarcliff's large industrial-sized mulch and compost pile. Tanker 15 worked with tankers from Croton FD (T10), Pocantico Hills (T12), Bedford Hills (T5), and Continental Village (T11) shuttling water from an offsite hydrant for just over 2 hours. Assistant Chief McCarthy served as the operation's Water Supply Officer.

We pause to reflect on their courage, dedication, and selflessness, and we extend our deepest gratitude to the fallen heroes and the families they left behind.
Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
