JBWS's mission is to increase awareness, understanding, and appreciation of estuarine ecosystems. It includes over 1600-acres and 12 miles of trails.

Welcome to the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary page managed jointly with the Friends of Jug Bay - a non-profit organization that acts to preserve the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary and support its education and research programs. The Sanctuary is operated by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, and is a component of the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Maryland. Habitats include forest, meadow, and one of the largest freshwater tidal wetlands on the East Coast. We welcome public visitors from 9am-5pm on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It's that time again! Time to make plans for your annual Turkey Trot. This year, why not plan for one AFTER the big day!

Join Jug Bay's Post-Turkey 5K Trail Run!

Saturday, November 28th, from 8:30 -11:30 am at our River Farm property. We are hosting our annual 5K fun run to help you manage those extra calories AND spend some time outdoors decompressing from the holiday.

Registration is open; visit jugbay.org to learn more. $15 per person. Snacks and drinks included.

Ages 12 and over are welcome, but all under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
NO pets, and this trail is NOT stroller-friendly.
No prizes, t-shirts, or medals, BUT the top 3 winners from each category will be mentioned in our upcoming Marsh Notes!

Had a great oyster night with your loved ones? Don't want to put the shells in the trash because they shred your bags?

Don't throw them away!

Toss them in a bucket and drop them off at the Deale Library! Each and every shell helps the Bay because they are reused to make reefs and become homes for NEW oysters!

Who cares? Marylanders do!
The filtration superpower of our oysters is just one important tool in Nature's toolbox to help filter the Chesapeake Bay water where we eat and play!
