Curb ramp construction is happening at Western Gage Community Park! The park, which broke ground in Fall 2025, is transforming an underutilized vacant lot into a pocket park to provide green space, shade, and community gathering opportunities in South Los Angeles. The project also includes new traffic calming infrastructure to slow down traffic and improve pedestrian safety, and features like these curb ramps to improve access. Stay tuned for more information about a ribbon-cutting event to open the new park soon!

We had a great time supporting the Boo Boo Bandage Brigade's Spring Roll fundraiser! The Boo Boo Bandage Brigade is a coalition working to make sidewalks in the Historic Core of Downtown LA smooth and safe for everyone, and particularly people with mobility issues. Focusing on leftover raised bolts that haven't been ground down and impassable cracked surfaces, the Brigade is raising awareness and funding to get sidewalks fixed!

The Rancho Dominguez Community Advisory Committee met this week at the Dominguez Adobe Rancho Museum to discuss pedestrian safety as part of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Step by Step Pedestrian Plan project. LANI's role is to make sure that community members' expertise is central to recommendations in the plan for future pedestrian infrastructure.

L.A. County has already adopted eight pedestrian plans for unincorporated communities, and LANI is currently helping with four new ones, including in Rancho Dominguez. Ensuring that pedestrians are central to any future improvements in the public right-of-way is one way that LANI fulfills our mission: to revitalize neighborhoods by engaging people and building vibrant public spaces!

It was great to learn and connect with colleagues and community members at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs InterActions LA conference. It's always good to do a deep dive with other practitioners into the intersections of housing, transportation, infrastructure, academics, and public-private partnerships -- so much relevant work being done!

LANI completed the reconstruction of a broken stretch of sidewalk on Tujunga Ave in Studio City in a record one day! Thank you to the local merchants who worked with us and to Councilmember Adrin Nazarian for making sure this work got done. Smooth sidewalks without tripping hazards make walking safe and accessible for everyone!
