πŸ’™ When our whole team comes together, good things tend to happen.

Last month, we held our Quarterly pulse, an all-hands meeting to connect, align, and keep moving forward together. We gathered in person at our Angeles Mesa location and virtually via Zoom, sharing space in a room where every voice matters.

A connected team means stronger communities. πŸ’™

We want to hear from you!

Empowerment means something different to everyone. For some, it's financial independence. For others, it's finding their voice, feeling safe, or simply knowing they're not alone.

What does empowerment mean to you? Share in the comments below. Your words might inspire someone who needs to hear them today. 🧑

Big things are in motion for Compton!

Last month, YWCA Greater Los Angeles CEO Lori Carmona, Director of Survivor Empowerment Services Dachelle Kendrick, and Director of Economic Advancement Eric Walker sat down with Compton Mayor Emma Sharif to discuss expanding our services within the city, with a focus on economic advancement and survivor empowerment.

This conversation is the beginning of something meaningful. We are committed to bringing the full weight of our programs and expertise to the Compton community, and we're grateful to Mayor Sharif for her time, vision, and commitment to the people she serves.

Stay tuned. 🧑

Happy (belated) Earth Day from our Little Stars! ⭐️

On April 22nd, our Little Stars classroom at Union Pacific celebrated Earth Day in the most beautiful way. Little hands mixed watercolor onto coffee filters to create their very own Earths. Then, they rolled up their sleeves and worked alongside their teacher to put together a fresh fruit and vegetable salad.

Creativity, teamwork, and a little love for our planet. That's Earth Day in our classroom. 🌱🍎🌈

πŸ… Honoring Farm Workers Day with our littlest learners at Angeles Mesa!

This Farm Workers Day, our students learned some of the most important lessons a child can receive: where their food comes from, the hard and essential work of farm workers, and why gratitude and kindness matter.

Children explored what it means to be thankful for the people who grow the food on our tables, and why showing compassion to everyone, no matter their job, is one of the most powerful things we can do.

We capped off the day with a visit to our very own garden, where little hands picked fresh tomatoes right from the vine, touching, smelling, and tasting the fruits of farm workers' labor firsthand. 🌱

🌸 This Mother's Day, we're honoring the women who shaped us, and supporting the women finding their way.

Margaret Ch**ca's parents emigrated from southern China to Southern California in pursuit of opportunity. When Margaret was still a young child, her father died unexpectedly, leaving her mother to raise three children in Los Angeles.

Her mother’s resilience carried all three children through college and into meaningful lives. But beyond academic or professional achievement, Margaret says her mother instilled in her and her siblings an openness to opportunity, diversity, and growth.

"She encouraged us to learn who we wanted to be. She didn't limit us by culture, by tradition, or by fear." β€” Margaret Ch**ca

Today, Margaret is paying it forward. After decades of breaking barriers in finance, she's deeply committed to YWCA Greater LA's mission of economic empowerment for women.

πŸ‘‰ In honor of the women who shaped us, make a gift to help YWCA Greater Los Angeles empower women to overcome barriers, build brighter futures, and thrive. https://weblink.donorperfect.com/giveformom

πŸ’¬ Tell us: What's a quote or lesson your mom passed down to you? Share it in the comments β€” we'd love to celebrate her with you.

🀝 Standing Up for Survivors in Sacramento

YWCA Greater Los Angeles CEO Lori Carmona and Director of Survivor Empowerment Services Dachelle Kendrick are in Sacramento today for 2026 Policy Advocacy Day, standing alongside our partners and raising their voices to protect critical VOCA funding.

Hosted by California Partnership to End Domestic Violence and ValorUS, today is about ensuring survivors of crime across California continue to have access to the support they need.

VOCA is the backbone of victim services β€” supporting nearly 400 programs statewide, including r**e crisis centers and trauma-informed care for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. These funds help survivors escape dangerous situations, address mental health needs, and rebuild their lives free from violence.

But that safety net is under serious threat. With a projected $100M funding gap in California, maintaining level funding is the bare minimum to keep these essential programs running. As costs rise β€” from operations to staffing β€” services are being stretched thinner than ever.

VOCA funding reflects our values. Every Californian deserves access to safety, healing, and support after experiencing violence.

Long Beach showed up in denim, and we couldn't be prouder.

On April 29, we partnered with the City of Long Beach and the Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force to host the city's very first Denim Day Rally and Press Conference at Long Beach City Hall.

City leaders, advocates, service providers, and community members came together in a powerful show of solidarity with survivors of sexual violence. Councilwoman Tunua Thrash-Ntuk, Councilwoman Megan Kerr , and partners across the Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force stood alongside us to uplift survivor voices and underscore the importance of prevention, education, and access to care.

Watch the rally below, and share it with someone who needs to see what community looks like in action. πŸ‘‡

Thank you to the City of Long Beach, the Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force, our community partners, and every single person who showed up in denim and in spirit. πŸ’™
