Hello Kitty brings joy and brings people together. At our Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting today, I was proud to spotlight the innovative and creative collaboration between Sanrio and LA County Library, which brought 102,000 readers to our libraries the weekend the Hello Kitty library card launched and fostered a 43% increase in circulation. The partnership led to a global reach of 700 million people, reminding us that libraries unlock unlimited possibilities for readers of all ages. If you haven't gotten your Hello Kitty library card yet, the next drop is Nov. 10!

I thank Attorney General Rob Bonta for taking decisive legal action against Waste Connections, the owners and operators of Chiquita Canyon Landfill. Together with the County’s existing litigation and other enforcement actions, this lawsuit sends a clear message: Chiquita Canyon Landfill must take accountability and not allow nearby families to continue to suffer.

The County lawsuit I initiated made clear that we would not look away, and today the state has made the same declaration. The harm caused by this landfill has never been contained to its boundaries. Accountability has to match the scale of that harm.

Today’s state action is an important step forward. Residents need relief, and I stand alongside Attorney General Bonta in the fight to do right by them.

The Altadena Sheriff's Station’s Haunted Jail was equal parts frightful and fun! It was a great way to get into the Halloween spirit with tricks and treats for residents of all ages.

It’s inspiring to see organizations work together to help Altadena residents return home. Today, we celebrated completed construction for multiple homes on Tonia Ave., made possible by pre-approved plans by The Foothill Catalog Foundation, construction by Williams Rebuild, downpayment assistance from Greenline Housing Foundation, and support from the Callahan Family Foundation. Pre-approved plans result in an average savings of $500,000 per home and can be built in just six months, offering an affordable, expedited option to help our residents get back to Altadena.

Addressing homeless encampments is a collaborative effort. Today in East Pasadena, the Los Angeles County Homeless Services and Housing Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homeless Outreach Services Team, and Los Angeles County Public Works cleared a massive encampment under a bridge off Walnut St. and offered to connect people to services and housing. This unified effort by our County departments produces real results.

Happy 50th birthday to the City of La Cañada Flintridge! The city has a storied history, beautiful natural surroundings, and residents who are committed to education, public safety, environmental stewardship, and community service. Thank you to the elected officials, city staff, community organizations, volunteers, business leaders, and residents who’ve invested in this special city for the last 50 years. I’m excited to see what’s in store for its future.

Each year, the National Foster Youth Institute partners with the County for Foster Youth Shadow Day, offering an opportunity for youth to get an up-close look at a career in public service. I was honored to be joined by Carolina today at our Metro Los Angeles Board meeting and to hear her story of determination, resilience, and success. She’s a steadfast advocate for other youth and has a bright future ahead.

On a regular basis, I gather with social workers, school leaders, nonprofits, faith partners, and County departments who are supporting foster youth in the Antelope Valley. Today's gathering was made extra special as we convened at Together California, the new village in the City of Palmdale that is allowing siblings in the foster care system to stay together. After a thoughtful dialogue about the economic, tangible, and programmatic needs of local youth and families, our stakeholders got the chance to see the amazing campus and learn more about the programs that will take place onsite.

The elected County Executive, who will make a salary of roughly $558,000 and not have term limits, will be one of the most powerful and highly paid politicians in the entire state of California. This presents a clear conflict of interest for every member of our Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, which is why I made a pledge not to run for the position. Starting the day bright eyed and bushy tailed, meet Squirrel (A5773150)! This sweet two-year-old cattle dog mix has a calm demeanor and a love of treats and toys.
