Many residents have reached out sharing appreciation for free subsidized parking at Whittier Narrows last week. However, I also heard a clear and consistent message about extending that same relief at Peter F. Schabarum Park. That is why I’m pleased to announce that starting Wednesday, June 10, parking at Schabarum Park will be free every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with weekend parking reduced from $10 to just $7, thanks to a $179,000 investment from my office. Families, seniors, residents, and our pets across the San Gabriel Valley deserve affordable access to green spaces where they can walk, hike, play, and stay active.  Remember to stay cool and enjoy the summer time!

As we recognize the history, contributions, and presence of our LGBTQ+ communities this month, we also remember that Pride began as a demand to be seen. Over the years, our q***r and trans communities have turned that demand into something joyful, defiant, and beautiful. This is a celebration earned, and one we must continue to uphold during these challenging times.

Joy is resilience and hope. Happy Pride Month, LA County!

I am proud to fund $1.3 million to deliver a permanent solution to the decades-long flooding issues at the equestrian arena in Avocado Heights Park. This project will install a new drywell drainage system, restoring safe, reliable access to a facility that is central to one of Los Angeles County’s last remaining equestrian communities. The investment reflects my commitment to preserving Avocado Heights’ equestrian heritage and ensuring this cherished community asset serves riders and families for generations to come.

Today, I hosted my third food distribution event, serving 2,500 families in Montebello in partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. As families continue to face food insecurity and prepare for federal changes to CalFresh set to take effect next week, ensuring access to nutritious food remains a critical priority. I am grateful to our volunteers and city partners for helping make this effort possible, and I look forward to continuing this work at our next distribution in South El Monte next month.

I’m continuing to monitor response and recovery efforts related to the East Los Angeles crude oil spill. The intersection of East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and North Eastern Avenue has also reopened after the Unified Incident Command—made up of , , and —determined there are no immediate public health or safety concerns. But the reopening of roads does not diminish the seriousness of this incident, and cleanup and environmental remediation efforts must continue until the work is fully complete

From the moment the crude oil spill occurred in East Los Angeles, my priority has been protecting residents, safeguarding public health, and ensuring an immediate, strong response. I will introduce a motion at our next Board meeting calling for a full investigation, accountability for those responsible, and stronger protections for impacted residents.

Beginning today, my staff and community partners launched door-to-door outreach in the affected area to connect residents with public health information, claims assistance, and emergency resources. We will continue standing with this community and demanding the accountability it deserves.

This morning, I attended the Memorial Day ceremony in El Monte, the city I proudly call home, to honor the brave servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Joining veterans, military families, and neighbors in remembrance is always especially meaningful in my hometown. Today, we honor those we lost, reflect on their service and sacrifice, and carry forward their legacy with gratitude.
