I was proud to join LA County Public Works this morning to celebrate the completion of the Colima Road Improvement Project, a more than $40 million investment that improves safety, mobility and access along approximately 5 miles of roadway in the unincorporated communities of Hacienda Heights and Rowland Heights. Now, Colima Road will feature traffic signal improvements, improved curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, new bike route signs, and more. Funding included support from our partners at Metro, City of Industry, and from the First and Fourth Supervisorial District. This project was also made possible thanks to the many residents who joined discussions on how to shape this project in 2022 and 2024.

Investments like these not only make a difference in our daily quality-of-life, but deliver on our commitment to work collaboratively across local government and communities to ensure a better life for all.

I was proud to celebrate the new community park and affordable housing that is taking shape at the former MacLaren site in El Monte. Alongside the City of El Monte, developers, County department leaders, and community members, today marks the completion of the new Hilda L. Solis Community Park and the groundbreaking of Esparanza Village housing - a new chapter that will bring forth opportunity for families, seniors, and the broader El Monte community.

Since 2019, I’ve worked alongside our partners and community to reimagine the site into a new future shaped by the community’s needs and priorities. This is a place where children can play and families can find a safe and affordable place to call home, while delivering investment in our communities. Together, the park and village will transform this site into a place centered on healing and opportunity for our families to build a new, brighter future in the San Gabriel Valley.

ABOUT THE HILDA L. SOLIS COMMUNITY PARK AND ESPERANZA VILLAGE

The park transforms the former MacLaren Hall site into a vibrant community gather space, featuring a soccer field, basketball and tennis courts, fitness areas, walking paths, play areas, picnic space, performance area, and more. Next to it, the Esperanza Village will add 202 affordable homes for low income families, individuals and seniors, and will feature a clinic, senior care center and pharmacy. The affordable housing development is expected to be completed in 2028.

More green space is coming to Pellissier Village!

I’m proud to have allocated more than $340,000 in grant funding to bring two new community gardens to life in partnership with CultivaLA. Located at the Plaza de la Raza Little Star Child Development Center and next to El Mercado Market at La Placita del Pueblo, the gardens will give families new spaces to gather, learn, and connect.

Through April 2027, CultivaLA will offer environmental education, workshops, food giveaways, and activities focused on composting, recycling, pollinators, and more.

Investing in our neighborhoods means creating greener, healthier spaces where families can come together.

I was proud to join commemorations at East LA College and the National Chicano Moratorium Committee at the East LA Civic Center today in recognition of the 56th anniversary of the Chicano Moratorium.

On August 29, 1970, more than 20,000 people gathered in unincorporated East Los Angeles for the National Chicano Moratorium Against the Vietnam War, one of the largest Latino-led demonstrations in U.S. history. Today, the movement remains part of the story of East Los Angeles and the broader fight for justice, dignity and accountability that generations of Angelenos have carried forward.

Recovery assistance continues to be available at Salazar Park for residents affected by the Lineage warehouse fire. Held inside the community center, residents can receive air purifiers, health screenings, and other resources from County departments.

Last night at the Hollywood Bowl, Angelenos came together through the power of music to support families affected by the earthquakes in northern Venezuela. It was also a meaningful night to honor Maestro Gustavo Dudamel at his final Hollywood Bowl concert as Music and Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His belief in the power of music to create opportunity helped shape YOLA and opened doors for countless young people across our communities. Grateful for his extraordinary artistry, leadership and lasting impact on our county.

Honored to receive the President’s Award from the The Imagen Foundation, an organization that has championed Latino representation in entertainment and media for more than 40 years.

I’m especially grateful to my dear friend Helen Hernandez, President of the Imagen Foundation and a First District Arts Commissioner for nearly 12 years, for this recognition and for her tireless commitment to making sure Latino voices are seen, heard and valued.

I’m proud to stand with the artists, creators and storytellers who are making sure our communities are reflected in the stories that shape how the world sees us.

Thank you to the Imagen Foundation for this tremendous honor.

A care-first future is taking shape Los Angeles General Medical Center.

Today, we celebrated the opening of three new behavioral health facilities at the Restorative Care Village, including a 24-hour Mental Health Urgent Care Center, a Residential Withdrawal Management Program and a Psychiatric Subacute Facility.

These investments strengthen our behavioral health system and expand access to mental health care, substance use disorder treatment and recovery services for those who need them most.

For nearly 12 years, I have worked to create the Restorative Care Village as part of a broader vision to create a continuum of care that connects people to treatment, housing, recovery and long-term stability. Today, that vision continues to become a reality.

Today, I joined Century Housing to break ground on Phase II of Colibrí at Restorative Care Village, unveiling the community’s new name and marking another major milestone in my effort to build out the Restorative Care Village at the Los Angeles General Medical Center campus. Last October, I stood on this same site to break ground on Phase I, which is creating 145 homes for individuals and small households. Today’s groundbreaking adds 149 affordable and supportive homes for seniors, bringing the two phases to 294 homes, plus two managers’ residences. The Restorative Care Village is part of a larger vision to bring affordable housing together with health care, behavioral health services and other critical resources, creating a stronger foundation for Angelenos to build stable futures.
