The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has ratified the local emergency proclamation I issued on Saturday in response to the massive warehouse fire at the Lineage Logistics facility in Boyle Heights.

The Board also approved my motion to expand community support, environmental monitoring, and recovery assistance for residents, workers, and small businesses impacted by smoke and poor air quality. The motion further directs the County to work with city and state agencies to investigate the incident and pursue accountability so that those responsible for the harm caused to our communities are held accountable.

We continue working around the clock to deliver resources and support where they are needed most. While significant work remains ahead, my office remains fully engaged and committed to helping residents, workers, and businesses recover and move forward.

Since the Boyle Heights warehouse fire began, my office has been on the ground supporting East Los Angeles residents.
Through door-to-door outreach and community resource events, we have distributed more than 2,300 air purifiers, 10,000 N95 masks, and 1,500 food boxes to households impacted by smoke and poor air quality.
We will continue delivering resources and standing with this community every step of the way.

Team Solis has been on the ground, going door to door and distributing air purifiers to residents of the Union Pacific community in East Los Angeles. We know the need remains great, and as additional air purifiers become available, we will continue working to get them into the hands of impacted residents. Our commitment is to ensure families in the immediate area to the fire have the resources and support they need.

Happening today: My office is hosting a resource fair for residents impacted by the Boyle Heights fire on today, June 22, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Air purifiers will be distributed exclusively to residents of the Union Pacific community of East Los Angeles (see map), while supplies last.

Masks, bottled water, nonperishable food, and information on available health and recovery resources will also be provided on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

My office has been working around the clock to support residents impacted by the Boyle Heights warehouse fire since the incident began.

On Friday, during the Juneteenth holiday, my staff was in the field throughout the Union Pacific community of East Los Angeles distributing masks, providing health and safety information, and speaking directly with residents about their concerns and immediate needs. It was through those conversations that we heard firsthand the urgent need for a place where residents could find relief from smoke and poor air quality. In response, I directed County emergency personnel to open a smoke respite shelter at City Terrace Park that same night, which became operational at 10 p.m.

On Saturday, my staff continued canvassing throughout the day and into the evening, delivering air purifiers to residents in the Union Pacific area, including individuals with respiratory illnesses and other health conditions that place them at greater risk from smoke exposure. I also had staff stationed at our East Los Angeles Field Office answering calls and helping connect residents with available resources. Today, staff is once again in the field delivering air purifiers and conducting direct outreach to impacted households.

While there may be times when phones are not answered immediately because staff are actively responding on the ground, every voicemail is being reviewed. Our team is compiling addresses and contact information and prioritizing residents with the greatest need for air purifiers, particularly given our limited supply.

I welcome Governor Gavin Newsom’s proclamation of a State of Emergency in response to the warehouse fire impacting Boyle Heights, unincorporated East Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

Earlier today, in coordination with the City of Los Angeles, I declared a local emergency for Los Angeles County to help accelerate our response and ensure every available resource is deployed to protect residents, workers, and first responders. Governor Newsom’s action strengthens those efforts by unlocking additional state resources, personnel, and emergency support at a critical time.

I am grateful to the Governor and our state partners for their swift action and continued collaboration. As firefighters continue working around the clock to contain this fire, Los Angeles County remains committed to coordinating closely with city, state, and regional agencies to safeguard public health, support impacted businesses and workers, and ensure affected communities receive the assistance they need throughout response and recovery efforts.

The health, safety, and well-being of our residents will continue to guide every step of our response.
