H2O "Help to Others" is a service learning program for middle and high school students.

The program is dedicated to strengthening and enriching the community by engaging its young people as community builders.

H2O has various projects that promote sustainability, encourage creativity, and build skills. From the annual summer Clothing Drive and Super Sale to the school-year Thrift Club, we love exploring the value of conserving fabric consumption. Of course, our service partners are invaluable resources for learning!

A new first for the H2O program; we took volunteers to Habitat for Humanity, Greater Cleveland! They unboxed and moved furniture in the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Greater Cleveland and learned how their work supports Habitat for Humanity's mission to support safe and affordable housing in communities.

H2O took nine volunteers to the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank where they were able to help the organization prep for their “Bet on Books” fundraiser coming up this weekend, in addition to the usual tasks of sorting and packaging books. Our volunteers love helping Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank get books into the hands of children!

H2O has launched middle school meetings! We are bringing our high school mentors, games, and service projects to Garfield Middle School on Tuesday, October 13th and Harding Middle School on Thursday, October 15th. Contact us if you have any questions about participation.

H2O took volunteers to Open Threads for the first time yesterday and had so much fun learning about their work! We toured the facility, then helped by sorting boxes and boxes of donated fabric by yardage. It was a simple task, but we were kept busy with shifting piles and measuring. We handled so many textures and learned about the use of the fabrics, from upholstery to outdoor gear, in addition to garments.

H2O High School Mentors attended a training session to prepare them for leading service projects and games at the middle schools. We will start meetings at Harding on Thursday, October 1st and at Garfield on Tuesday, October 13th.

H2O staff, Emmie Hutchison & Kim Griffith, along with dedicated volunteer and advocate for the homeless, Bob Shores, had the honor of meeting with Chris Knestrick and Anthony Bennett, leaders of Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless (NEOCH) last week. At the meeting, H2O learned more about the incredible work that NEOCH does and presented the organization with a check for $1,389.04, a donation that was raised by the H2O summer camp campers during their penny war fundraiser. We look forward to partnering with NEOCH in the future and connecting young volunteers to their mission.

It was exciting to take a group of volunteers to Sew4Service - Lakewood, OH Chapter! Most of us had little to no sewing experience. Under the patient instruction of staff, we learned to use sewing machines and completed making pencil pouches from upholstery scrap fabric. We look forward to using our new skills with Thrift Club.

Today, we're grateful for the community gardens run by LEAF Community, our volunteer Sharon, a nice breeze at Madison Park on a hot September day, and our caring H2O volunteers. Great start to a new year of high school service!
