Please join us in welcoming our new Northern Beach Division Supervisor, Vonnie Wescott!

Born and raised on the Outer Banks, Vonnie grew up participating in Dare County Parks & Recreation programs, from tee ball and softball to dance. Those early experiences helped spark a passion for parks and recreation that would eventually become her career.

A 2003 graduate of Manteo High School, Vonnie went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management from North Carolina State University in 2007. She brings more than 10 years of experience with Dare County Government and has been a valued member of the Parks & Recreation team since 2023.

We are excited for the future of the Northern Beach Division under her leadership and look forward to all the great things ahead. Congratulations, Vonnie!

We had an awesome 2026 volleyball season!!! Huge thank you to our amazing coaches, we truly could not do this without you. Thank you parents, for showing up and showing your support to this program and these incredible athletes.

Our Leisure Services Supervisor, Charlotte Midgett, received her 30 year pin today at the Dare County Board of Commissioners meeting. Please join us in congratulating Charlotte on her many years of service to Dare County Parks and Recreation!

Charlotte will also be officially retiring on May 29th, 2026. We are extremely sad to see her go, as she has been a staple here at the Dare County Youth Center for so many years. She's not only been an outstanding leader for the Northern Beach Division, but has also been a great friend and mentor to so many youth and adults throughout this community. She will truly be missed by all!!! 🩷

🐾The Kitty Hawk Dog Park (located at 900 W. Kitty Hawk Rd.) will be CLOSED beginning April 28th for general maintenance and the addition of amenities. We will keep you posted as to when the park will reopen! We appreciate your understanding and patience.

April 19th through 25th is National Volunteer Week! To continue with highlighting another amazing volunteer, we'd like to give a huge shoutout to Penny Nelson!!! Penny is our 2026 Volunteer of the Year!!! She has been an incredible coach, mentor, and friend to so many of the youth who participate in our Parks and Recreation programs. We cannot thank you enough for all of your support over the years, it means so much to us and the DCPR community! 🩷
