❗️ WEST MAIN STREET BRIDGE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE ❗️
Due to high waters, the one-lane bridge on West Main Street leading to the Northlake neighborhood is closed until further notice. Public safety officials will check the water level every few hours to determine the best time to safely open the bridge.

We will provide an update when the bridge is reopened. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Jacksonville Police Investigate Fatal Shooting on S. Hwy 161

JACKSONVILLE, AR – On Sunday, May 17, 2026, at approximately 7:30pm ,officers of the Jacksonville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 4000 block of South Highway 161. While en route, officers received updated information indicating that one individual had sustained a gunshot wound in connection with the incident.

Upon arrival, officers located a 6-year-old juvenile male in a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered aid, and the victim was subsequently transported to a local area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The two adults in the vehicle with the juvenile were not injured.

This incident remains under active investigation. Additional information will be released to the public as it becomes available.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Jacksonville Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at (501)982-3191.

🚧 OVERNIGHT RAMP CLOSURE SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY TUESDAY MORNING 🚧
A temporary closure of the southbound exit ramp to Vandenberg Boulevard (Exit 11) is scheduled to take place from 8 p.m. Monday night, May 11 through 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 12.

Weather permitting, crews will close I-57 southbound Exit 11 to Vandenberg Boulevard for striping and traffic signal work.

A signed detour will be in place directing traffic to southbound Exit 10 to North James Street. Traffic may then take North James Street to I-57 northbound and use the northbound exit ramp for Vandenberg Boulevard (Exit 11).
