🦁 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Meet Lion Liza Garza, HLLC charter member and Past President! 💙💛
Honoring her family legacy and dedication to service.
Today, we’re proud to spotlight Lion Liza Garza, whose family legacy of service helped inspire her journey as a founding member of HLLC. Read her responses below to learn more about her story, her pride in our club, and her hopes for our future.
1️⃣ What inspired you to become a charter member of the Houston Lady Lions Club?
“For me, service is a family legacy.
Growing up, I watched my aunt/godmother whom, is 84 years old, successfully found a women’s Lions Club in her city once women were allowed to be Lion members. I saw firsthand the incredible impact she made by bringing women together to lead and serve for a common cause. I moved to Houston and I would travel back home to volunteer with their club.
I knew I had to carry that same torch forward when my uncle/godfather, her husband a Founder of a men’s Lions Club, passed away.
Founding the Houston Lady Lions Club has allowed me to honor her legacy while working alongside passionate, service-minded women to make a tangible difference across the Houston metroplex.
I am incredibly proud to be part of a global organization that empowers female leadership, helps me develop my own skills, and prioritizes hands-on community service!”
2️⃣ As a charter member, what are you most proud of when you look at HLLC and what it has become?
“12 years of service, and we are just getting started!
As a charter member of the Houston Lady Lions Club, looking at what we’ve built fills my heart with so much pride. We have blossomed into a diverse, multi-generational sisterhood from every corner of Greater Houston, dedicated to serving with humility and leading with purpose.
Given my own connection to the Army, our focus on supporting military Veterans is incredibly close to my heart. Sponsoring a new club, the Houston Metroplex Veterans Lions Club, is proof of what happens when compassion meets action.
True leadership is found in giving, and I am so proud to be part of a club that doesn't wait for change—we become the change. It makes me so happy to see the Lady Lions learn about leadership, step into leadership positions at the District level, and be recognized by our organizational leaders for their dedication. Witnessing how leadership and serving the community has truly changed their lives is one of the greatest rewards.”
3️⃣ What are your hopes for the future of HLLC, and what would you like to see the club continue to accomplish?
“My greatest hope for our future is that we continue to deepen our community impact while preserving the unique spirit of our club. We have blossomed into a sisterhood from the Greater Houston area and I want to see that diverse network continue to grow.
Moving forward, I want HLLC to continue to invite others to become members and mentor them, nurture members into club leadership and District-level leadership roles, ensuring our voice helps shape the larger Lions organization. I also want us to remain steadfast in our vital support with community services around core global causes known as Lions Club pillars of service as well as the military veterans. The more members we are the more we can serve the communities. Ultimately, I hope HLLC remains a lifelong platform where diverse, multi-talented women can unite to transform lives in Greater Houston and carry forward our proud family legacy of service.”
