Sylvia Thompson is running for Hopkinton Town Council as an independent. Her checkbook isn't.

Thompson runs the Hopkinton Taxpayers United PAC, which exclusively funds far-right candidates and the campaign to waste your tax dollars. Her PAC made contributions to local Moms for Liberty extremist Jasmin Roy, the Republican town councilor now running for State Rep, and to Elaine Morgan, the Republican State Senator who keeps filing bills to outlaw weather control. Yes, really. Look it up.

Every candidate her PAC funded in 2026 is a Republican. Every. Single. One.

Her PAC also bought campaign signs for Larry Phelps and Robert Greene, Republican candidates for Chariho School Committee. Larry Phelps is as MAGA as they come, and he wears the gear everywhere to prove it. Robert Greene hasn't told Hopkinton voters where he stands on a single issue. That's the playbook on that side of the ballot: say nothing in public, spend quietly, and hope nobody reads the filings. We read the filings.

Her circle doesn't stop at the town line either. Thompson has been sharing a bond flyer paid for by Friends of Michael Colasante, a Republican running for Richmond Town Council, and setting up in a parking lot to hand out "No" signs along with material prepared by a former Chariho School Committee member, Republican Kathryn Colasante.

And the taxpayers she claims to protect? Thompson was a vocal opponent of the 2024 bond, when the state would have covered 81% or more. Her PAC spent nearly $5,000 on a mailing to registered voters three weeks before that vote. Now she's fighting this one too. Her plan would cost taxpayers $7 million to $11 million more (before interest!) to patch up old buildings, when new ones would cost us less to build and less to maintain. Sylvia Thompson is fiscally irresponsible and will waste your hard-earned tax dollars.

Hopkinton deserves better than a Republican slate wearing an independent costume.
Kevin Lambert and Rick Wucik are running for Town Council to do the opposite. Kevin believes in transparency by design: you should see how decisions get made, not just what got decided. Rick is running to end the closed-door meetings and secret deals, fix our roads, keep Hopkinton attainable for young families and seniors, and protect the rural character that makes this town home. And fair taxes means transparent budgets, not piling costs on the families who can least afford it.

No hidden alliances. No silent candidates. Neighbors who tell you exactly where they stand.

One week out, here’s the record for the Republicans running for Hopkinton’s Chariho School Committee seats.

Larry Phelps voted to put the elementary school bond on the ballot in April, then voted against it in September and has campaigned against it ever since. He’s never offered an alternative. When State Rep. Megan Cotter was mocked online, his response was “f them.” And before the vote to close Hope Valley Elementary, a fellow member had to correct him on the budget numbers he was challenging.

Ed Lowe voted to cut AP courses for Chariho students, pushed a policy the chair told him would violate Rhode Island law, and called a $546,000 surplus a shortfall.

Robert Greene has given one interview and skipped every forum. One week from Election Day, voters still don’t know where he stands on our school buildings.

The committee chair called it ineptitude. We call it a reason to vote.

Justin Bentley and Gregg Avedisian are running to put students over politics. Early voting at Hopkinton Town Hall through November 2. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.

Elaine Morgan says she stands with AARP on ending the state tax on Social Security. But when the budget included the first step toward phasing that tax out, she voted no. Now her mailer implies an AARP endorsement she doesn't have. Sam Wilcox will be straight with you and show up for seniors. Vote Sam Wilcox for State Senate, District 34, on November 3.

I have always stood up and said something when there were attempts at wrong doing. That will not stop if elected as senator.

A recent mailer from our senator included AARP's logo implying their support and endorsement from her. This is not true and they have asked her to cease using their logo.

Thank you to AARP for your continued efforts to supporting seniors.

The Chariho School Committee chair just put it in writing.

In an email now in the public record, Chairman Ryan Callahan called out Hopkinton representatives Ed Lowe and Larry Phelps for their "ineptitude."

The backstory: when the Oct 13 meeting was moved, Lowe demanded it be reinstated and copied the RI Attorney General, News 10, and the Hopkinton Town Council.

Callahan's response was addressed to the entire Hopkinton delegation. His point: they never needed him. With a quorum, they could have held the meeting themselves. Instead, he wrote, they chose to "sit back and complain rather than lead," adding that it "goes doubly for Larry."

He closed by asking whether they simply want to "tear down rather than build up."

Ed Lowe and Larry Phelps are on the ballot. Hopkinton deserves representatives who show up and do the work. Justin Bentley and Gregg Avedisian will.
