Today the members of Group 1 worked at a house donated by the Harwich Conservation Trust on roof ventilation and laddering techniques.

Frequently the department gets access to houses like this one, slated for destruction, and is able to train on various fire department skills and techniques.

These training opportunities are an invaluable part of the departments training program.

Today the Harbormaster and Fire Department boat operators conducted their weekly training on Nantucket Sound.

This training focused on towing/rescue and assistance drills, and reinforced skills.

Harwich is unique with this cooperative boat operator program with firefighters and Harbormaster personnel training and working alongside each other to provide the best response for the community.

A busy morning for the Brockton Fire Department with a significant fire in an occupied "Three Decker". 1 person jumped and 5 were rescued over ground ladders. Excellent work by all involved and very appropriate comments from Chief Nardelli regarding this outcome.

“At a Town Meeting, warned and assembled at Harwich, June 17, 1776, Solomon Freeman, esq chosen Moderator, Voted should the Honorth Congress for ye safety of the Colonies declares them independent of the Kingdon of Great Britain, that ye said inhabitants will solemnly engage with their lives and fortunes to support them in the measures; and our Representatives is instructed to act agreeable thereto.”

Just three weeks before the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence….

Over 400 Patriots from Harwich served and fought for that Independence and behind each one of them was a family that shared in that burden.
