Every fire truck you see rolling down the road is staffed by ordinary people who made the decision to serve something bigger than themselves. They have families, jobs, responsibilities, and busy lives—yet they still find time to train, respond, and protect this community.

The truth is, volunteer fire departments across America need the next generation of firefighters. Hartshorne is no different.

Pool Safety Reminder

As summer heats up, we want to remind everyone to take extra precautions when children are around pools.

Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, even with adults nearby. Please keep a close eye on children at all times, use proper barriers when possible, and never assume someone else is watching.

A few simple reminders:

Stay within arm’s reach of young children.
Keep gates, doors, and pool areas secured.
Put phones down while supervising.
Teach children basic water safety.
Have life jackets available when needed.
Learn CPR if you are able.

Pools are a great way to enjoy summer, but safety has to come first.

Watch the water. Watch the kids.

Hartshorne Fire & Rescue Saturday Training

Today’s training focused on one of the most basic, yet most important skills in the fire service: ladder operations.

From raising and lowering ladders, to carrying equipment, climbing techniques, roof access, and working as a team, every evolution reinforced the importance of doing the fundamentals right. When seconds matter on an emergency scene, muscle memory, communication, and trust in your crew can make all the difference.

Training days like these remind us that firefighting isn’t just about responding to calls. It’s about preparing before the call ever comes. Every ladder raised, every climb made, and every scenario practiced helps ensure we’re ready when our community needs us most.

A big thank you to everyone who came out and put in the work today. Rain or shine, we continue to sharpen our skills and strengthen our department.

Train hard.
Stay humble.
Stay ready.

Today, we pause as a nation to remember those who never made it home.

Memorial Day is not about barbecues, long weekends, or convenience.
It is about sacrifice. It is about names etched into stone, folded flags placed into trembling hands, empty seats at dinner tables, and families who carried the weight of loss long after the uniform was folded away.

At Hartshorne Fire & Rescue, we honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who answered theirs, knowing they may never return.
Because freedom has always carried a cost. And somebody paid it.

To the fallen:
