Happy Halloween from Greenwich DPW!🎃

Whether you're trick-or-treating, handing out candy, or enjoying the festivities, we hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween! A few friendly reminders to help keep the evening safe:

🦺 Wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a flashlight or glow stick.

🚸 Cross at designated crosswalks, look both ways, and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.

🚗 Slow down, stay alert, and watch for children who may be walking between parked cars or crossing unexpectedly.

🎭 Make sure costumes, masks, and accessories don't block your vision or make it difficult to walk safely.

Let's all do our part to make Halloween a treat for everyone! 👻

🍂 Leaf it to Greenwich DPW! 🍂

The 2026 Leaf Collection Program begins Monday, November 9, weather permitting. Crews will collect leaves Monday through Saturday, with two collections per section. The first collection is scheduled for Old Greenwich/Riverside, Cos Cob, Central Greenwich, and Glenville.

A few reminders to help keep streets safe and drainage clear:
✅ Keep leaf piles near the street, but out of roads, sidewalks, catch basins, and open channels.
✅ Use neat piles or biodegradable bags, no plastic bags.
✅ Keep branches, sticks, and garden refuse out of leaf piles.

Beginning November 3, check your street’s schedule on the DPW website or call the 24-hour hotline at 203-618-7698.

October 28 is National First Responders Day!💚

Today, we recognize and thank all those who step up to serve and protect our community, often in challenging and unpredictable circumstances. Their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to helping others make a difference when it matters most.

From all of us at Greenwich DPW, thank you to everyone who serves our community and helps keep Greenwich safe. Today, we celebrate you 👏

Fun Fact Friday: Did you know that 74% of fatal pedestrian crashes occur at non-intersections? That means it’s important to stay alert for pedestrians wherever you’re driving, not just at crosswalks and intersections.

🚗 Drivers: Stay alert, watch for pedestrians along the road, and be prepared to slow down or stop.

🚶 Pedestrians: Stay visible, stay aware of traffic, and use designated crosswalks whenever possible.

Safety takes all of us. Let’s look out for one another and keep Greenwich moving safely 💚

Have you seen how much clothing and footwear gets recycled at Holly Hill?👕♻

Our Helpsy textile recycling bins at the Holly Hill Resource Recovery Facility are collected twice a week, and this is how full they can get after just 3–4 days 🤯

Residents can drop off unwanted clothing and other accepted textiles, giving these items an opportunity for reuse or recycling instead of ending up in the trash.

Have items you no longer need? Give them another chance at life and help keep textiles out of the waste stream!

As leaves begin to fall, please remember to keep them off the pavement of public streets and highways 🍂

Leaves in the roadway can create hazards for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Please keep leaves out of the street as you prepare your property for our Leaf Collection Program.

Placing leaves on the pavement of a public street or highway is also prohibited by law and may result in a summons or fine.

Thank you for helping keep Greenwich’s roads safe!

Construction on the Shore Road Sidewalk Project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 13, starting at Sound Beach Avenue and Shore Road and continuing southwest toward Greenwich Point 🚧

During construction, residents can expect:
🚦 Alternating one-way traffic at times, with police officers on-site to assist with traffic control.
🕗 Weekday construction hours: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM.

The roadway will be restored to a drivable condition at the end of each workday. Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year, weather and other conditions permitting.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve pedestrian access along Shore Road!

Fun Fact Friday: Nearly 77% of pedestrian fatalities occur in the dark🚶‍♀️🌙

As the days get shorter, it’s especially important to stay alert when walking or driving after dark.

Drivers: Slow down, stay alert, and watch for pedestrians—especially in low-light conditions.

Pedestrians: Be visible, use crosswalks, and stay aware of your surroundings.
