Power Outage Update: As of 3:30pm.

The last 18 hours have been extremely busy for our public safety, public works, Parks & Rec, Sewer Department, Signal Department., and utility partners throughout town.

Last night's storms caused significant damage, including numerous downed trees, blocked roadways, and multiple power outages affecting more than 2,000 residents across several separate outage areas. Through the hard work of Eversource crews and Town personnel, those outages had been reduced to approximately 540 customers by 12:30 PM today.

Unfortunately, while Eversource was conducting repairs in Stamford related to damage from last night's storms, an unexpected failure occurred, resulting in a widespread outage that at one point affected approximately 99% of Greenwich.

Emergency communications, public safety operations, and Town services immediately experienced a significant increase in call volume and service requests.
Since approximately 1:00 PM, Emergency Management has been coordinating closely with Eversource representatives, Town officials, emergency service agencies, and State partners to facilitate information sharing, coordinate response efforts, and support power restoration operations.

I would like to thank our Dispatch Center personnel, Police, Fire, EMS, Department of Public Works, Traffic Signal Division, Tree Division, Sewer Department, and all other Town staff who have assisted, and continue to assist, throughout this incident.

As of this update, Eversource is restoring power in phases, and many residents have already begun to see service restored. We are currently reporting approximately 27,608 customers without power. Eversource has advised that the majority of customers affected by today's large-scale outage should have power restored over the next several hours.

Please note that some residents who were impacted by outages that existed prior to today's widespread outage may remain without power into the evening.

Eversource crews are expected to continue working throughout the night to restore service to those remaining locations.

⚠️ POWER OUTAGE – TOWN OF GREENWICH ⚠️

A power outage is currently impacting approximately 28,000 residents throughout Greenwich.

According to Eversource, the outage is the result of an emergency repair that was required within their electrical system. We have been advised that power restoration is expected to take approximately two hours as crews complete repairs and reroute power.

🚦 Residents are encouraged to stay off the roads if possible. Numerous traffic signals throughout town are not operating properly or may be completely out. If you must travel, treat any non-functioning traffic signal as a four-way stop and proceed with caution.

πŸš‘ Greenwich Police, Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management personnel are actively monitoring the situation and continue to respond to calls throughout the community. Emergency services remain operational.

πŸ“ž If you have an emergency, please call 911 immediately.
