Library Closure Update – October 22 & 23

The Millicent Library must remain closed on Thursday, October 22, and Friday, October 23, as work continues on the installation of our new heating system and indoor temperatures remain below the required minimum.

We have been informed that the heating system is expected to be started up sometime on Friday. Based on this timeline, we are planning to reopen on Saturday, October 24.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

PLEASE NOTE: Tonight's author talk with Anthony Amore about The Rembrandt Heist will take place as scheduled at 6:30 PM in the Town Hall Auditorium.

Behind every heist is a human story. 🖼️

At the heart of The Rembrandt Heist are relationships as unlikely as the crime itself.

Myles Connor was a master thief with a passion for art. His best friend, Al Dotoli, made his life in the music industry, worlds away from Myles’s life of crime. Anthony Amore, director of security at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, developed remarkable relationships with both men while researching and writing this story.

Tomorrow night, we’ll hear from author Anthony Amore about what it’s like to write a true crime story that goes beyond the theft itself and explores the man responsible for the painting’s disappearance, as well as the man who helped facilitate its recovery.

Join us in asking: How do you tell the full story behind a crime—and what does it take for someone whose job is to protect against art theft to understand the people who commit it?

✨ See you tomorrow night at...

The Millicent Library is undergoing a replacement of the building’s heating system. The previous system, installed in 1991, was beyond its useful life and exhibited significant deterioration. Due to expensive annual repair costs, the Millicent Library Board of Trustees voted to allocate $200,000 to replace the aging system.

Unfortunately, unanticipated delays have prevented the new heating system from becoming operational as scheduled. The arrival of colder weather has brought indoor daytime temperatures to 57° F and 64° F, making it necessary to close the building until adequate heating can be restored.

Additional crew members have been brought in to expedite the installation, with the goal of having the new heating system fully operational later this week.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by these closures and appreciate your patience and understanding.

We will announce a reopening date as soon as we can confirm that the building can be safely and comfortably occupied.

Thank you for your continued support of the Millicent Library.
