I don’t know if I’ll ever forget this moment.

As our Juneteenth Block Party came to a close, thousands of people held their phones in the air, the fireworks were seconds away, and one chant filled the night:

“Dumfries… Dumfries… Dumfries…”

Standing there with Carl Thomas, I wasn’t looking at a crowd. I was looking at a community that came together to celebrate freedom, culture, and each other.

Thank you to our Town staff who did the heavy lifting to make this event possible. Thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and every person who showed up and made this night special.

Moments like this remind me why I love serving this town.

Tonight, Dumfries didn’t just host an event. We created a memory.

And for a few beautiful minutes, our entire community spoke with one voice.

Dumfries.

Purpose outlives a person.

Today I witnessed Governor Abigail Spanberger sign the Queen Candis Hope for Sickle Cell Act into law.

The King family has been family to me for years, and watching them turn pain into purpose has been nothing short of inspiring.

One of my favorite quotes says:

“The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without purpose.”

Queen Candis’ purpose continues to educate, advocate, and save lives.

Today was more than a bill signing.

It was proof that legacy lives on.
