The Colorado Attorney General is one of four independently elected statewide offices in Colorado and was established by the state constitution upon statehood in 1876. The Attorney General and the Department of Law, which Attorney General Phil Weiser oversees (collectively referred to as the Colorado Attorney General’s Office or AGO), represents and defends the legal interests of the people of the State of Colorado and its sovereignty. The Attorney General exercises the responsibilities given to his office by the Colorado Constitution, statutes enacted by the Colorado General Assembly and the people of the state of Colorado, and the common law. The Attorney General has primary authority for enforcement of consumer protection and antitrust laws, prosecution of criminal appeals and some complex white-collar crimes, the Statewide Grand Jury, training and certification of peace officers, and certain natural resource and environmental matters. The Attorney General’s Office also works concurrently with Colorado’s 22 district attorneys and other local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to carry out the criminal justice responsibilities and activities of the office. The Attorney General is also the chief legal counsel and advisor to the executive branch of state government including the governor, except as otherwise provided by statute, all of the departments of state government, and to the many state agencies, boards, and commissions.

General Motors will pay $220 million to settle allegations that it illegally sold consumers’ private driver behavior data and location information to third parties, including data brokers who then sold the data to insurance companies. For many consumers, this data was used by insurance companies in part to set insurance rates: https://bit.ly/4ziml04

Shell companies can help criminals hide dirty money, stolen assets, and corruption. That's why Congress passed a bipartisan law requiring businesses to disclose who really owns and controls them, giving law enforcement a way to follow the money, uncover fraud, and hold criminals accountable.

Now, the Trump administration is gutting that law.

After exempting 99.9% of businesses from its reporting requirements, the administration now plans to delete existing ownership records that could help solve financial crimes.

AG Phil Weiser is joining a coalition of 21 attorneys general to challenge these actions and uphold the law.

Naloxone saves lives, and access matters.

Over the past year, Colorado's Naloxone Bulk Purchase Fund made more than 364,000 doses available at no cost through 231 agencies across all 64 counties. Eight of those agencies voluntarily reported 5,100 overdose reversals, meaning the actual number is likely substantially higher.

AG Phil Weiser is expanding the state's investment in lifesaving naloxone to $6.5 million, using funds recovered from the companies that fueled the opioid crisis to keep this medication available statewide through June 2028.

Just five companies control roughly 90% of the nation's commercial playground equipment market. Now, two of those companies, which account for 41% of sales in Colorado, want to merge.

With schools, churches, and parks spending anywhere from $50,000 to more than $1 million on playground equipment, less competition could mean higher prices, fewer choices, and lower quality.

AG Phil Weiser is joining the FTC and a bipartisan coalition of states to block the merger and protect Colorado communities. Read more: https://bit.ly/4yqLHYr

Bankruptcy shouldn't give tech companies a free pass on protecting children and consumers.

Colorado was already investigating Character.AI over serious concerns about its chatbots, including their potential to expose children to sexual content, encourage self-harm, and foster harmful emotional relationships.

Now, AG Phil Weiser is leading a bipartisan coalition of 38 attorneys general seeking stronger safety and privacy protections as the company moves through bankruptcy.

Character.AI holds sensitive personal information, including private conversations about users' mental health and emotional struggles. Colorado is working to ensure that information remains protected and that children's safety isn't compromised, regardless of who ultimately owns the company.
