📣The prophecy has been foretold! Actually, not really, we just can't remember the last time our winter hours change also happened the same day as Daylight Saving Time. What this means for you:
✅You get an extra hour to sleep tonight - heck yah!
✅Your MetroParks will start observing winter hours starting tomorrow, which means parks will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until April 1!

💚What doesn't change? Your MetroParks are always free to visit and open nearly every day of the year!

It's beautiful weather to complete your last MetroParks Trails Challenge trail before Oct. 31! Those who are using MetroParks Mobile App to track their progress don't need to submit their trails; however, if you have been tracking your progress differently be sure to head to the link in our comment/bio to submit your completed trails! You wouldn't want to miss out on your chance to win sweet prizes, this year's official T-shirt and bragging rights! Link in comments!

We know how important it is to the residents of Montgomery County for MetroParks to take care of what it has and be resourceful, which is why we are so happy to have received a USDA Urban Forestry Grant for conservation work at Spring Run and Possum Creek MetroParks.

We have 3,000 trees to plant and the hardest part is done - the holes are dug! 😃 So we're hoping you'll help us plant trees today for the people of tomorrow on one of the next upcoming Tuesdays in November. Link in bio/comment to sign up!

This grant aims to increase biodiversity and protect land from things like climate change and invasive species - specifically to enhance the quality of urban life and create equitable access to green space. Folks and critters who live in West Dayton deserve expansive forests and healthy habitat to explore that are close enough to explore, so join us!

While you won't find any tricks or treats in your Five Rivers MetroParks this Halloween, our rangers are used to giving folks advice on how to be safe outdoors - especially during cooler weather. Lt. Adrian Sargent has some tips for those who are trick or treating this Saturday!

It’s almost time to say farewell to the outdoor farmers market at the 2nd Street Market! This is the last weekend to enjoy all the outdoor famers, bakers and artisans that made the warm weather season so special. The Market fun doesn’t stop this weekend, though, we have an entire holiday season filled with special shopping events, your favorite indoor vendors and more. Link in comment to learn more.

You know what's truly spooky? 👻 The *billion* pounds of pumpkins that end up in the landfill during the fall. After your pumpkins have served their purpose this Halloween, be sure to drop them off at Carriage Hill MetroPark to be composted (or we'll give them to the farm animals as a snack). Pumpkins should be chemical, wax, glitter and paint-free. Link in comment/bio to learn more.

We’ve all heard of Mother Nature, but we’re pretty sure Joshua York is “Father Nature.” If you check out the latest edition of ParkWays, you’ll know that Joshua has been educating the public about the wonders of nature at your MetroParks since 1996. Joshua has a great passion for teaching, in fact, there is likely not a time of the day where he isn’t teaching the public, his coworkers and the many people around him – it’s in his nature and he’s incredible at it!

Over the years, he’s seen so much change with the rise of technology and how people connect with nature. York is on a mission to inspire kids to be less scared of nature, make MetroParks more accessible and inspire everyone in the community to protect the region’s natural resources.

“Our community values clean air, clean water and biodiversity — even those who might not visit a MetroPark,” said York. “We help our community understand that we, ourselves, are nature and whatever we do to nature we do to ourselves.”
