The Assessor does not set tax rates, raise taxes, or make tax laws. Those responsibilities belong to the Louisiana Legislature, local taxing bodies, and voters who approve millage rates. Taxes are collected by the Sheriff’s Office.

Our role is to determine the fair market value of property so each owner pays their fair share based on voter-approved millage rates that fund services like schools, roads, and law enforcement.
