Showers have already started for some along the coast this morning. Additional showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon as both a weak frontal boundary and the sea breeze interact with a very tropical air mass in place across the region. These storms will be capable of producing heavy rain that could lead to some nuisance street flooding. Storms will gradually dissipate this evening as temperatures cool.

🌀 Today marks the beginning of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

For the past several years, Acadia Parish has been fortunate. While we’ve experienced impacts from tropical weather, we have avoided a major hurricane strike.

That good fortune should not be mistaken for preparedness.

It only takes one storm to change lives, damage property, and impact our community.

Now is the time to review your emergency plan, check insurance coverage, refresh disaster supply kits, and ensure you have multiple ways to receive emergency information.

📱 Download the Acadia Parish Police Jury App for emergency alerts, weather updates, road closures, and important parish notifications.
