THE PURPOSE OF MESA WATER DISTRICT (Mesa Water®)
THE SERVICE AREA
Mesa Water® provides water service to 110,000 customers in an 18-square-mile area. The service area includes the City of Costa Mesa, parts of Newport Beach, and some unincorporated sections of Orange County, including the John Wayne Airport. The service area is divided into five divisions. One individual from each division is publi
cly elected to serve a four-year term as a Director. THE SOURCE
The District provides water that is a blend of local ground water. Groundwater, or well water, is pumped from Orange County's natural underground reservoir, or groundwater basin, via Mesa Water's eight wells. Mesa Water® supplements its groundwater with water from the Mesa Water Reliability Facility (MWRF). The MWRF is designed to process amber-colored groundwater from a deep aquifer and was re-opened in January 2013. The facility was completed under budget. The MWRF helps Mesa Water® provide 100 percent of the water it serves from local water supplies, achieving a long-time goal of its Board of Directors. THE MISSION
Mesa Water District, a local independent special district, manages its finances and water infrastructure, and advocates water policy, while reliably providing an abundance of clean, safe water to benefit the public’s quality of life.
