There are few places so rich in both history and spirit as Glen Eyrie! Originally constructed in the late 1800s by Civil War hero and founder of Colorado Springs General William Jackson Palmer, Glen Eyrie was a modern marvel for its day featuring both electrical power (supplied by its own power plant) and some of the first telephones installed in the West. The Navigators were blessed with the purchase of Glen Eyrie in 1953 and have continued using the peaceful and beautiful grounds as a place of rest and rejuvenation for countless missionaries and honored guests like you.

This Throwback Thursday, we’re looking back at Queen Palmer, the woman whose love for William Palmer was matched by her love for the place they called home.

Mary Lincoln Mellen Palmer, affectionately known as “Queen,” first met William aboard a train traveling between Cincinnati and St. Louis. Their relationship grew through letters and telegrams, as they shared their hopes for a railroad, a community, and a home at the foot of Pikes Peak.

When Queen arrived in Colorado, she quickly fell in love with the beauty of the canyon. She named many of the rock formations throughout the grounds and streets after rivers and streams connected to William’s railroad.

Her love for William and their home never wavered, and her story remains woven into the history of Glen Eyrie.

Today, we invite you to experience the place that captured Queen’s heart and continues to inspire visitors generations later.
