⏰🚨 DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS… AND YOUR BATTERIES! 🔋

As you prepare to turn your clocks back one hour, take a few extra minutes to check some important safety devices around your home.

🚒 Colon Community Fire and Rescue reminds everyone to:

🔋 Change the batteries in your smoke alarms.

🔥 Test your smoke alarms to make sure they're working properly.

📻 Check and replace the batteries in your NOAA Weather Radio.

🌪️ Make sure your weather radio is ready to alert you to severe weather, especially while you're sleeping.

🏠 Review your family's emergency plan and make sure everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.

A working smoke alarm can save lives, and a properly functioning weather radio can provide critical warnings when severe weather threatens our community.

A few minutes of prevention today could make all the difference tomorrow.

Please take the time to protect your home and the people you love!

🎃👻 HALLOWEEN SAFETY.🚒🧡

Halloween is all about costumes, candy, and making memories—but a few simple safety steps can help keep the night from turning into a real-life fright!

🎃 From your friends at Colon Community Fire and Rescue, here are some important Halloween safety tips:

🦺 Be Seen: Use flashlights, glow sticks, or reflective tape so drivers can see you in the dark.

🚸 Watch for Traffic: Cross at designated crosswalks, look both ways, and never assume a vehicle sees you.

🍬 Check Your Treats: Parents should inspect candy before children enjoy their Halloween goodies.

👻 Choose Safe Costumes: Make sure costumes fit properly to prevent trips and falls. Use face paint when possible instead of masks that can block vision.

🏠 Trick-or-Treat Safely: Stay in familiar neighborhoods, travel in groups, and make sure younger children have adult supervision.

🚗 Drivers, Slow Down: Expect excited trick-or-treaters, especially in residential areas. Drive slowly and stay alert!

🔥 Keep Decorations Safe: Keep candles and open flames away from costumes and decorations. Use battery-operated lights in pumpkins whenever possible.

❤️ A little extra caution goes a long way in protecting our families and neighbors.

From our family at Colon Community Fire and Rescue to yours, have a safe, happy, and spooktacular Halloween! 🎃🚒

Stay safe out there, Colon!

🚒 OCTOBER 28 — NATIONAL FIRST RESPONDERS DAY 🚑🚔

Behind every call is someone willing to run toward danger when others are running away.

Today, we recognize and honor the brave men and women who answer the call when our communities need them most. From firefighters and EMS personnel to law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and emergency management professionals, these dedicated individuals work around the clock to protect lives, serve others, and keep our communities safe.

Today, Colon Community Fire and Rescue extends our sincere gratitude to all first responders, both career and volunteer, who answer the call and make a difference every day.

❤️ To those who serve, those who have served, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice — THANK YOU.

Your courage matters. Your dedication matters. And your service will never be taken for granted.

FIRE SAFETY REMINDER — GET OUT, STAY OUT!

When a house fire starts, you may have only minutes to escape. Modern furnishings and building materials can cause fires to develop and spread much faster than many people realize.

Seconds matter. Minutes matter. Have a plan.

✅ Make sure every home has working smoke alarms.
✅ Test your smoke alarms regularly.
✅ Have two ways out of every bedroom.
✅ Practice your family escape plan.
✅ Choose a meeting place outside.
✅ GET OUT and STAY OUT — never go back inside for people, pets, or belongings.

A fire doesn't wait for you to figure out what to do. Plan ahead, practice your escape, and give your family the best chance to get out safely.

On Saturday, our members had the opportunity to participate in valuable training provided by the Michigan Propane Gas Association (MPGA).

Continuing education and hands-on training are an important part of keeping our firefighters prepared to safely respond to emergencies involving propane and other hazardous materials. Training like this helps our members better understand the hazards we may encounter and how to safely manage them when seconds matter.

A big thank you to the Michigan Propane Gas Association for coming out and providing this training to our department!

We are committed to training, preparedness, and serving our community safely and professionally.

🔥 Train today. Be ready tomorrow.

Training for the unpredictable is what keeps our community safe!

Tonight, the members of Colon Community Fire and Rescue put their skills to the test with a missing hunter training scenario at the State Game Area on Colon Road.

Operating with limited information, our teams had to rely on quick thinking, teamwork, and systematic search tactics to successfully locate the missing individual across the property.

Realistic drills like this are crucial because emergency situations rarely come with a clear roadmap. By simulating high pressure, real world conditions, our members sharpen their navigation, communication, and search capabilities.

It was a beautiful evening, with great, people, doing great things!
