DESCRIPTION:
These are four open house/workshop style meetings, providing opportunities for Large Quantity Water Users (LQWU) to speak with representatives from Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) about issue involving current and past LQWU registrations. Special emphasis will be on the Michigan’s Unreported Large Quantity Water Withdrawal Registration Initiative, with MDEQ Michigan Water Use Program Staff available to answer question.

No Registration is required.

Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, along with the state water use committee determined that unreported water withdrawals that existed before 2008 are a potential challenge to the future of the system. They have created an initiative for unreported pre-October 1, 2008 LQW user withdrawals. This opportunity for LQW users to report their water use opened in January and will run through April 2018. LQW use is defined as the capacity to pump more than 100.000 gallon/day (about 70 gpm). Producers will need to provide information on the location of their withdrawal and the rated capacity of their pump in GPM, and that it was in use in 2008 or earlier to establish a baseline for the water use.

These timely meetings can also assist LQW users with reporting issues. Especially if they have never met Michigan’s LQWU reporting requirement for those with capacity to pump 70 gpm or more from wells or surface water.

LQW Users are encouraged to bring water withdrawal records, previous registrations and LQWU Reporting records and paper work to support and clarify registration and reporting issue.
