Towns County High School hosted the Future Educators Literacy Leadership Conference on Wednesday, March 25. Students from both Towns County and Union County High Schools attended. The theme for the conference was Rooted in Stories: Growing through Literacy. Dr. Renee Carey, 6-12 ELA/Literacy Specialist with Pioneer RESA, led a breakout session concentrating on content literacy. Enthusiastic future educators explored the true meaning of a text along with significant literacy concepts such as prior knowledge, timely feedback, complex text, and building background knowledge. Attendees enjoyed a trivia game focusing on literacy statistics in our state, and they had a lot of fun interpreting and constructing a text into a popular dance. Several other great sessions followed, and the students had a meaningful day of enjoyable learning.
