𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝗷𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 -- At approximately 10:47 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, White County 911 received a report that an aircraft had crashed in a field along Black Road in the area of Hampton Hills Lane in Cleveland.

White County Fire Services, White County EMS, White County Emergency Management, and the White County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders located a small plane, identified as a Boeing PT-17, in a nearby field. The aircraft reportedly departed from Mountain Airpark in Cleveland prior to the incident.

Two individuals were on board the aircraft at the time of the accident. Both occupants presented with injuries and were evaluated by emergency personnel on scene.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Aviation Administration were notified of the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration responded to the scene and will conduct the investigation into the cause of the crash.

The two occupants were transported by White County EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

This full-time position plays a critical role in public safety by answering emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching the appropriate personnel, and helping keep first responders and the community connected during emergencies.

Applicants must be able to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends. The position offers competitive pay, excellent benefits, and matching retirement contributions up to 7%.

Successful applicants must be able to pass a background investigation, drug/alcohol test, and pre-employment assessment.

HEAVY RAIN, GUSTY WINDS & LIMITED SEVERE WEATHER THREAT

White County is not currently included in a Flood Watch. However, the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur will bring periods of moderate to heavy rain, gusty winds, and a limited severe weather threat through Friday.

Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected across much of Northeast Georgia, with locally higher amounts possible. While widespread flooding is not anticipated, localized flooding may occur in poor drainage areas, low-water crossings, and near creeks or small streams.

A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather remains in place through tonight. The primary threats include:

⚠️ Isolated damaging wind gusts
⚠️ A brief tornado
⚠️ Downed trees and power lines
⚠️ Scattered power outages
⚠️ Hazardous travel during heavy rainfall

Residents should continue monitoring forecast, use caution while traveling, and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings (especially overnight). Never attempt to drive across a flooded roadway.

White County Emergency Management will continue monitoring conditions and provide additional updates as needed.

White County Fire Station 9 Opens, Placed Into Service, Responds to First Call Hours Later

WHITE COUNTY, Ga. — The White County Board of Commissioners and White County Public Safety officially celebrated the grand opening of White County Fire Station 9 on Thursday, June 11, 2026, with a hose uncoupling ceremony in the Mount Yonah community.

County officials, public safety personnel, community members, partner agencies, and project stakeholders gathered at the new station, located on Sonnys Circle off Duncan Bridge Road, to mark a major investment in fire protection and emergency response for one of White County’s growing areas.

During the ceremony, White County 911 officially placed White County Fire Station 9, Engine 9, and Truck 9 online and in service. The station is now staffed and ready to serve the Mount Yonah community and surrounding areas of White County.

“Located to serve the Mount Yonah community and the surrounding areas of White County, Station 9 stands ready to protect lives, property, citizens, and visitors with pride, professionalism, and dedication,” White County 911 announced via radio transmission during the in-service ceremony.

The new station was fully funded through White County’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST, with no additional property tax burden on residents. The project was constructed under the management of Precision United of Cleveland and represents years of planning, coordination, and commitment from county leadership, public safety staff, and community partners.

Station 9 is designed to improve emergency response times, strengthen fire protection, and provide dedicated resources closer to the Mount Yonah area. The station’s coverage zone includes more than 2,300 structures, with many properties expected to benefit from improved ISO fire protection classifications.

The importance of the new station was demonstrated just hours after it was placed into service.

First Call: Mountain Rescue

At approximately 6:38 p.m. Thursday evening, White County Fire Station 9 received its first emergency call: a mountain rescue on Mount Yonah. Engine 9, supported by Engine 3, Med 3, and Battalion 1, was dispatched in reference to an individual who had fallen and was initially reported to be unconscious.

LifeFlight was originally requested but later canceled after crews found that the individual had regained consciousness. Within approximately 30 minutes, first responders located the patient in an area of the mountain between the Ranger Camp and an area known as the “Lower LZ.”

The individual was loaded into a stokes basket and extricated to the Ranger Camp, where a White County EMS unit was waiting. The patient was transported by White County EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.

“This call is exactly why Station 9 matters,” said David Murphy, Director of White County Public Safety. “Within hours of being placed into service, the station responded to a rescue in the Mount Yonah area and provided critical support to an emergency in the community it was built to serve. We are thankful for the work of our firefighters, EMS personnel, 911 communications officers, and all responding units involved.”

White County Public Safety extends its appreciation to the White County Board of Commissioners, county administration, Precision United, public safety staff, partner agencies, and the citizens of White County for helping make Station 9 a reality.
