Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has filed suit against ABC Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric, a large Arlington Heights company serving the greater Chicago area.

The allegations describe a playbook. And the playbook is not unique to Illinois.

According to the Attorney General's office, the lawsuit claims:

πŸ”΄ Technicians came for one repair, then inspected other parts of the home without permission
πŸ”΄ Whatever they found was presented as an emergency or a life-threatening hazard needing immediate work
πŸ”΄ Contracts were presented on a digital tablet, never printed, so customers signed without reading
πŸ”΄ Buried in those contracts, customers unknowingly waived their three-day right to cancel
πŸ”΄ Prices were inflated, and work was often unnecessary, incomplete or poorly done
πŸ”΄ Some work was performed by unlicensed technicians

Raoul said the practices are not only illegal but disheartening, because they target senior citizens. On the tablets specifically, he said seniors are more vulnerable to signing something without understanding what they are committing to.

The suit alleges violations of the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act, the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and the Illinois Home Repair and Remodeling Act.

A 93-year-old man called the company because he had a coupon. He wanted a noise fixed.

The job was done. The noise remained.

Then the bill came: $1,100.

His family told NBC Chicago they believe he was taken advantage of.

According to the lawsuit, a homeowner's job dragged on for months and required technicians to tear out portions of her basement walls. The basement kept flooding.

When she asked for an itemized list of services, she was told the company did not provide them.

She paid an outside contractor $1,500 to fix the plumbing work. The company eventually reimbursed her for those corrective repairs β€” but she is still carrying the loan she took out to pay for the original job.

ABC Plumbing issued a statement saying it became aware through media reports of a complaint reportedly filed by the Attorney General's office, and that it had not yet received the complaint.

These are allegations. Nothing has been proven in court, and the company has not been found liable of anything.

🚨 CHICAGO β€” At least 5 people were killed and 14 more were wounded in shootings across the city between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, according to the Chicago Police Department. Victims ranged in age from 17 to 50.

The fatal incidents:

πŸ“ Friday, 9:42 p.m. β€” 700 block of West 73rd Street, Englewood. Three men were outside when a quarrel escalated and one man opened fire. A 34-year-old man died at the University of Chicago Medical Center. A 50-year-old man and a 20-year-old man survived and were listed in fair condition.

πŸ“ Sunday, midnight β€” 4500 block of South Honore Street. A man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Among the wounded: four people were struck at 8:22 a.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of North LeClaire Avenue when a white car pulled up and someone inside opened fire, and two 17-year-old boys were wounded by gunfire in an alley behind the 5900 block of South Michigan Avenue Sunday afternoon.

🚨 WEST SIDE β€” A 27-year-old man was fatally shot and a 56-year-old woman was wounded Friday afternoon in the 3400 block of West 16th Street in North Lawndale.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the man was standing near the street just after 12:38 p.m. when two vehicles pulled up and multiple armed offenders inside opened fire. He was struck several times and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

A 56-year-old woman standing nearby β€” not believed to be the intended target β€” was struck twice in the back. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and was listed in fair condition.

Aerial footage from the scene showed shell casings across the roadway and shattered glass at the bus stop shelter.

No one is in custody. Area detectives are investigating.
