Governor's Council on Impaired Driving On September 16, 2011, I signed an Executive Order establishing my Council on Impaired Driving. Sincerely,

Matthew H.

We’re dedicated to ending impaired driving in Wyoming by educating the public about the issues associated with both alcohol and drug impairment, while supporting strategies and programs designed to save lives. Impaired driving has touched thousands of lives reaching every corner of our state. We have taken important steps to curtail impaired driving during the last ten years, but there is more to do. This year, I signed a new law which makes it more difficult for repeat offenders to avoid prosecution. Efforts to stop impaired driving are also benefiting from advancements such as ignition interlock devices, which prevent impaired drivers from starting their vehicles. I created my council on Impaired Driving to continue the fight against impaired driving and to help prevent impaired driving related deaths. The Governor's Council facilitates research, discussion and planning to reduce impaired driving in Wyoming. The Council is tasked with identifying priority issues, developing prevention strategies and tackling other initiatives to address the problem. I believe this Council is necessary to keep all of our citizens safe. Mead
Governor

Did you know that fatal crashes involving impaired drivers are more likely to happen on Halloween than on New Year's Eve? If you're going to get your “boos” on tomorrow night, make plans NOW for a safe and sober ride to/from your destination!

The Fremont County DUI Task Force will patrol for impaired drivers this Saturday, Halloween night.

Through September 2026, Fremont County has had 13 fatal crashes and 18 fatalities. Eight of these fatalities involved impaired driving. Task force operations in Fremont County have yielded 1,732 traffic stops and 16 arrests of impaired drivers so far this year.

“Planning a safe ride is just as important as planning your costume,” said Marshall Dean Whitaker of Safer Roads Wyoming. “If you’re going to drink this Halloween, line up a sober driver or a sober ride home ahead of time. Feeling buzzed means you shouldn’t be driving.”

SafeRide operates on weekends in Lander and Riverton and will be available this weekend. Rides are free; call SafeRide at (307) 856-WRTA (9782).

Law enforcement officers remind everyone to never drive impaired and to always wear a seat belt.

The Fremont County DUI Task Force includes the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lander, Riverton, Shoshoni, Dubois and BIA Wind River police departments.

The Fremont County DUI Task Force recommends these safe alternatives to drinking and driving:
-- It is never OK to drink and drive. Even if you have had only one alcoholic beverage, designate a sober driver or use a ride sharing service or SafeRide to arrive home safely;
-- Contact SafeRide at (307) 856-WRTA (9782);
-- If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact Fremont County law enforcement immediately or dial 911;
-- Have a friend who is about to drink and drive? If you have a friend who is about to drive impaired, take their keys and help them get home safely.

Law enforcement agencies in Natrona and Fremont Counties will be conducting high-visibility DUI enforcement efforts over the Halloween weekend. Now is the time to plan ahead for a sober ride by using ride-share services, a designated driver or arranging public transportation. Don’t risk it. Drive sober.

Now, THIS is a Halloween costume we can all get behind!
