FIRE PREVENTION MONTH MAY BE ENDING—BUT FIRE PREVENTION NEVER STOPS. 🛑🔥
As October winds down, the Cherry Hill Fire Department's commitment to keeping our community safe continues every single day. Fire safety isn’t just a 31-day calendar event—it’s a year-round practice.
Keep your home and loved ones protected with these quick habits:
• Test your smoke alarms monthly and replace them every 10 years.
• Practice your home escape plan with the entire family.
• Check appliance cords and avoid overloading electrical outlets.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 FIRE PREVENTION MONTH FAMILY CHALLENGE!

Tonight, take 5 minutes and do a “Power Check” around your home.
Look for:
🔌 Devices charging on beds or couches
🔋 Damaged or swollen batteries
⚡ Chargers that don’t belong with the device
🔥 Devices that become unusually hot while charging
🚪 Charging equipment blocking an exit or walkway
Then ask your family:
“Do we know how to safely charge everything in our home?”
Make safe charging a family habit—not just a Fire Prevention Month reminder.
Take the challenge and share this post with another family!

🛴 BIG BATTERY? BIGGER SAFETY CONCERNS.

E-bikes, scooters and cordless power tools rely on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries—and those batteries store a lot of energy.
When charging larger devices:
🔋 Follow the manufacturer’s instructions
🔌 Use the approved charger
🏠 Charge in an appropriate location, preferably outdoors when recommended
🚪 Never block an exit or doorway while charging
⚠️ Stop using a battery if it is damaged, swollen or unusually hot

A charging device should never prevent you or your family from getting out of your home quickly during an emergency.
Keep your exits clear. Keep your batteries safe.

🔋 FULLY CHARGED? UNPLUG IT.

We’ve all done it—plugged in our phone before bed and left it charging all night.
This Fire Prevention Month, make safe charging part of your routine.
When your device is fully charged, unplug it when practical.

And remember:
✔️ Use the proper charger
✔️ Charge on a hard, flat surface
✔️ Keep charging devices away from bedding and other materials
✔️ Don’t use damaged batteries or charging equipment
Small habits can help prevent big problems.

Cherry Hill Firefighters, EMTs, and Cherry Hill Fire Police members spent this afternoon at Cherry Hill Township’s annual Harvest Festival. The beautiful weather allowed us time to talk to members of our community. It also gave us an opportunity to begin training future firefighters with a hose prop. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hi!

🚨 KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS

A rechargeable battery can give you clues when something isn’t right.
Stop using a device if you notice that it:
⚠️ Gets unusually hot
⚠️ Swells or bulges
⚠️ Has a strange odor
⚠️ Leaks
⚠️ Smokes
⚠️ Makes popping or hissing sounds

Don’t ignore the warning signs.
If a battery-powered device appears damaged or is behaving unusually, stop using it and move away from the device. If there is smoke or fire, get outside and call 911.
When it comes to battery safety, trust your instincts and don’t take chances.
