Last Thursday, JFCS was proud to host our fourth annual Holocaust Survivor Day Celebration in Cherry Hill - a morning filled with love, joy, and connection. We began with meaningful remarks from Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey CEO Jen Weiss, JFCS Associate Executive Director Jill Hammel, Cherry Hill Township Mayor Dave Fleisher, and a beautiful D’var Torah from Rabbi Davide Englander of Congregation Beth El Voorhees.

Guests enjoyed a delicious catered lunch, sweet treats from Magical Sweet Shop, and the joy of singing and dancing—especially a spirited hora led by Jeff Dershin. Most importantly, it was a day to honor our beloved Survivors—each one so deeply cherished. It is truly a blessing to know them and to be part of their lives.
Each Survivor went home with a special gift, a small token of our deep gratitude and love.

Thank you to our incredible staff and volunteers for creating such a meaningful and festive celebration. The happiness in the room said it all.

We are also deeply grateful to the generous sponsors who made this event possible: Seed the Dream Foundation, Kavod SHEF, Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany), Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. (JCF) of Southern New Jersey, Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry, Jewish Federations of North America Center on Aging, Trauma, and Holocaust Survivor Care, Raymond & Gertrude R. Saltzman Foundation, and Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey.

Last Tuesday, JFCS had the privilege of hosting Vineland’s fourth annual Holocaust Survivor Day Celebration—and what a beautiful day it was. We were honored to welcome Avi Wisnia, who shared his grandfather’s powerful documentary, "How Saba Kept Singing," along with music and meaningful conversation with our Survivors. A delicious lunch followed but it was the connection, laughter, and time together that truly made the day special. We were especially touched to welcome a Survivor attending for the first time. The resilience, spirit, and strength of this community continue to inspire us all. We are so grateful to share in these meaningful moments together.

Special thanks to the generous sponsors who made this event possible: Seed the Dream Foundation, Kavod SHEF, the Claims Conference (Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany), Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. (JCF) of Southern New Jersey, Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, Jewish Federation of Cumberland, Gloucester & Salem Counties, Meredith Berkowitz, and Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry.

Pride is for those who are out and proud, and for those not out yet.

It’s for people still figuring things out, those with supportive families, and those who have built chosen families.

It honors the trailblazers who fought for the rights we enjoy today, and the advocates, allies, parents, and community members continuing that work.

Pride is for every LGBTQ+ person—wherever you are on your journey. You belong. You matter. You are worthy of love, dignity, safety, and joy.

Happy Pride from JFCS.

Today, on , we pause to honor and uplift the incredible Holocaust Survivors in our community, across the country, and around the world. We are deeply grateful for the gift of their stories—the lives they rebuilt, the families they nurtured, and the lasting impact they continue to have on all of us. Their courage, resilience, and strength inspire us each day.

Since 2020, JFCS has joined with communities around the world on to celebrate the remarkable lives and enduring legacies of living Survivors—through remembrance, tribute, and meaningful connections across generations.

At JFCS, it is a true privilege to walk alongside our Survivor clients. We look forward to gathering later this month in Cherry Hill and Vineland to celebrate and honor them in person.

Today and every day, we remember. We listen. And we carry their stories forward.
