🚨 CMPD attempted to seek $150 million from the Trump Administration recently to fund more surveillance and deepen collaboration with ICE as part of the "Model Cities" Initiative.

While this request was declined by Charlotte City Council, the same council recently approved a $3.7 million land purchase for a new station. CMPD continues to ask for more and more money from both the city and federal government.

We don't need to increase funding for an agency that has openly admitting to want to collaborate with Trump and ICE. We should be investing in community programs, not more police!

"The hard, painstaking work of changing ourselves into new beings, of loving ourselves and our people, and working with them daily to create a new reality - this is the first revolution, that internal revolution"

As Black August comes to a close, we studied former political prisoner and Black Panther Safiya Bukhari’s “The War Before”. Safiya Bukhari was a tireless organizers, who fought for the freedom of all political prisoners, an end to racism, imperialism, and mass incarceration.

It is critical to learn the lessons from past revolutionaries, so we can build stronger organizations today that can resist repression and complete the work of those who came before us.

Join us to continue to organize and practice the tenets of Black August: ⭐️ STUDY ⭐️ FAST ⭐️ TRAIN ⭐️ FIGHT ⭐️

🤔 CMPD's latest plan to make Uptown "safer"? Ban food trucks after midnight.

Charlotte recently implemented a midnight curfew for food trucks, causing businesses to suffer. The Halal Cart, one of the most popular Uptown food trucks, reported a 40% decline in business and has had to lay off and reduce hours of staff. At the same time, CMPD is also trying to implement a youth curfew, as an attempt to "reduce crime".

Cracking down on Charlotte's nightlife and our youth won’t make us safer. We should invest in youth and cultural programs, jobs, and support for struggling small businesses—not spend even more on curfews and overpolicing.

March with our socialist contingent this Labor Day! ✊🚩

On Monday, September 7, we are proud to join unions at the Labor Day March to say WORKERS OVER BILLIONAIRES! The billionaire class is fueling endless war, stripping our basic rights and social services, and making obscene profits while we struggle to survive. It's time we fight back!

Workers make the world run—we should run the world too.

📅 Mon Sept 7
⏰️ Meetup @ 10AM, march starts @ 11AM

Pride means fight back! Thanks to all who joined us Friday for our afterparty to celebrate the revolutionary roots of Pride through art such as print making and paint. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

We discussed how Pride isn’t just a form of expression but a political movement that we must carry not just in June and August but throughout the entire year. At a moment where LGBTQ+ rights are being stripped, we need to fight to overturn this capitalistic system based on bigotry and division and fight for a socialist society guaranteeing equal rights and dignity for all.

Join us this weekend to continue the fight back with a book study of The War Before by former Black Panther Safiya Bukhari:

We spoke with Manolo Betancur, after former Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino attempted to enter his bakery—a clear attempt by Bovino to harass a pillar of the immigrant community in East Charlotte.

Bovino should be held accountable for his crimes in Charlotte and Minneapolis, not allowed to continue intimidating our community. We stand with Manolo and all those in Charlotte targeted by ICE, and demand:

ICE OUT OF CHARLOTTE! BOVINO GO AWAY!

📚 Join us to study Black Panther and political prisoner Safiya Bukhari's book "The War Before".

Safiya Bukhari was a tireless organizer, who fought to free all political prisoners and end racist, mass incarceration. As the state ramps up attacks on the progressive movement, it's critical to study those who have fought before us.

Her work teaches us how we can learn from the history of the Black Panther Party to build strong organizations today that can resist repression.

No prior reading required.
