We spoke with Cameron, a union electrician, on why he’s opposed to the data center buildout. He’s not against quality union work, he’s against these environmentally destructive projects that are helping the billionaires automate away millions of jobs.

Union electricians shouldn’t have to build data centers just to make ends meet. Under a socialist system, we could create many high quality jobs for union workers by investing in building public transportation, renewable energy, and affordable housing—not more data centers!

🚨 BREAKING: Charlotte City Council votes unanimously to extend data center moratorium until October 2027!

This victory didn’t come out of nowhere—it came from a people’s movement against Big Tech that has been growing for months. But the fight isn't over yet!

While an extended moratorium is a win, it is still only temporary. The only true way for us to permanently protect ourselves from Big Tech's greed is to fight for an entirely new system where the needs of our communities are prioritized above corporate profits. At least seven Charlotte police officers have been caught sending racist texts and slurs. But these cops aren't just a few "bad apples"—they are symptoms of a fundamentally racist and broken policing system.

CMPD recently murdered Curtis Massey, a 47-year old Black father—and still there is no justice or even bodycam footage. CMPD also refused to conduct an autopsy after Juliana Nzita, a 16-year old Black girl, was found hanging from a tree in May. And, CMPD was recently exposed to have a secret contract with Flock's AI mass surveillance system.

The only way we can end CMPD's racist policing is to build a mass movement that will make it stop. Join Curtis Massey's family and community organizations this Thursday for a meeting to discuss next steps in the struggle for justice.

🚨 ICE detained a U.S. citizen at gunpoint in East Charlotte, during a targeted traffic stop this past Wednesday.

Atilio Portillo was heading to work with his brother and nephew, when his truck was surrounded by ICE agents who smashed his windows and demanded he get out at gunpoint—despite Portillo repeatedly telling them he was a US citizen. Portillo's brother Ricardo Portillo Guzman, who has been in the U.S. for nearly 40 years, was arrested by ICE.

It's clear that even legal status will not protect our communities from ICE's violent, racist behavior. We must continue organizing to demand: ICE OUT!

STOP THE WAR ON BLACK AMERICA! ✊🏽

On Wednesday, the people of Charlotte marched on CMPD's HQ to protest the department's racist policing. Just this year, CMPD murdered a Black father, Curtis Massey; refused to properly investigate the hanging of 16-year old Juliana Nzita; and were caught sending racist texts about pulling over as many Black drivers as possible.
