At this week’s Small Business Series, we welcomed Joshua Perry, owner of Perry Design, for a conversation about the realities of growing a business and knowing when it’s time to expand.
Drawing from his own experience, Joshua shared several key takeaways:
• Growth should be calculated, not rushed. Expansion requires a clear purpose, careful planning, and a realistic understanding of your finances.
• Prepare for the unexpected. Before taking on additional expenses, consider whether your business could sustain a significant drop in revenue.
• Relationships create opportunities. Through his involvement in the Broken Arrow Chamber’s Ambassador and Leadership programs, Joshua grew Perry Design from a handful of Broken Arrow clients to more than 50.
• Growth comes with costs you might not anticipate. Hiring, training, and building a strong team culture all require time and resources beyond what’s reflected in a budget.
• Know when to say no. Joshua shared how the EDC’s Founders Forge program helped him better define his ideal clients, establish boundaries, and focus on the right opportunities.
One of Joshua’s biggest takeaways: Don’t build bigger. Build better.
Thank you to Joshua for sharing his experiences and to everyone who joined us!
