During EMS Week, we are reminded exactly why this profession matters.

On October 31st, Paramedic/Firefighters responded alongside Maryland Heights Police Department to a devastating motor vehicle accident involving Adin on Hwy 141. Crews arrived to find catastrophic damage and immediately began providing lifesaving care. Adin was unresponsive, not breathing, and suffering from severe traumatic injuries. Through the quick actions of everyone on scene including CPR, advanced lifesaving interventions, hemorrhage control, and rapid transport, Adin was given a fighting chance.

Over the months since the crash, Adin has endured numerous surgeries and an incredibly difficult road to recovery, showing unbelievable strength and resilience every step of the way.

Today, during EMS Week, some of the first responders who helped save Adin’s life had the opportunity to meet him in person. Moments like this are a powerful reminder of why we do this job and the lasting impact emergency responders can have on someone’s life.

Please continue keeping Adin and his family in your thoughts as his recovery journey continues. (Consent was obtained by Adin and his family to share his story).

You may drive past them every single day… but in a fire, these hydrants become a lifeline. Seconds matter. Access matters. Water matters.

That’s why Paramedic/Firefighters are out in conducting annual fire hydrant inspections, maintenance, and flow operations to ensure hydrants are ready when they are needed most.

A few important reminders for the community:

-Do not park in front of or too close to fire hydrants
-Keep grass, weeds, landscaping, and debris trimmed and cleared around hydrants
-Report damaged or leaking hydrants if you see them

Clear access to hydrants helps firefighters get water on the fire faster and can make a major difference during an emergency.

Clear today. Ready tomorrow. 🚒💧
