Inspire: To start the year off on a positive note, Macy Kauffman, Title Teacher at Walnut Creek, placed a beautiful flower arrangement on staff members' desks, so they arrived at the new year ready to grow together! Thank you, Macy, for providing a wonderful way to inspire your colleagues with care and positivity as you help create a positive culture in your building and across the district!
Prepare: Last year, Lori Pringle, our district media specialist, helped support STEM education across the district. This year, not only has she worked alongside our district librarians and helped move and organize libraries with our refresh project, but she has also provided support with the technology pieces of our new science curriculum. Lori has met individually with teachers to help them understand and streamline new material and to support our engaging new science curriculum across the district. Lori, thank you for helping us all be prepared to help serve students in so many different ways!
Challenge: Gennie Swartzentruber, fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at Berlin Elementary, created an authentically challenging writing experience for her sixth-grade students. For this process, she collaborated with her teammate, Intervention Specialist Mrs. Miranda Mccullough. The class was divided into three writing teams: featured writers, General Columnists, and Trivia Columnists. Together, they created their first edition of "Paper Airplane" Magazine. Throughout the year, Mrs. Swartzentruber aims to showcase students' growth in writing over time.
